Kimbrough formerly Chief Development Officer at Mayo Clinic Health System
St. Mary’s University has hired Richard Kimbrough as Vice President for University Advancement, a position he assumed July 11, 2013.
Kimbrough returns to San Antonio from the Mayo Clinic Health System in Mankato, Minn., where he served as Chief Development Officer and a member of its senior management team for the Southwest Minnesota region. He managed fundraising responsibilities for six hospitals and 28 clinics. During his first two years as Chief Development Officer (2010-12), charitable gift revenue increased by 300 percent.
Before joining the Mayo Clinic, Rick held senior development positions at two Catholic college preparatory schools, Saint Thomas Academy and Hill-Murray School, in Minnesota. He said he sought a position in Catholic higher education in a place he and his family could call home.
“I felt drawn to St. Mary’s,” Kimbrough said. “Catholic, liberal arts education is near and dear to my heart. Helping this University grow financially will, in turn, allow for enhanced growth of well-rounded individuals and future leaders.”
Raised in San Antonio, Rick attended Holy Spirit Catholic School before graduating from Churchill High School and earning a debate scholarship at UNLV. His Bachelor of Arts degree is in Communications and, at his graduation in 1999, gave a commencement address on philanthropic responsibilities. Rick will obtain his master’s degree from Saint Mary’s University of Minnesota this summer.
