On 25 September, Her Majesty’s Ambassador, Fiona Clouder, held a reception to bid farewell to the Chilean delegates going to Chile Day in London on 13 and14 October. Finance Minister Alberto Arenas was in attendance as the head of the delegation to London. This is the fourth year that Chile Day, the largest promotional event outside the country for the Chilean financial and business sector, has been held in London.
As well as the traditional Chile Day seminar in Mansion House, this year’s version of the event will include a reception for 200 delegates in the Locarno Suite of the Foreign and Commonwealth Office, hosted by Rt Hon Hugo Swire MP, Minister for Latin America. It will also include a seminar on bilateral investment between the UK and Chile held at Lancaster House. This event will demonstrate to the Chilean audience the strong rationale for expanding business to the UK, due to the highly qualified work force, easy business environment, low corporate taxes and strong global connectivity.
On the occasion of the reception, the Ambassador said:
It is a pleasure to welcome you to my Residence to celebrate Chile Day 2014. I thought it would be a lovely opportunity to come together before we travel to London in a couple of weeks.
I am delighted that Chile Day is returning to London this year. The bilateral relationship between the UK and Chile is very special and British Ministers want to develop joint events such as Chile Day to maintain and deepen our commercial and political ties.
I hope that all of you who are travelling to London have an enjoyable and productive visit. I am sure that you will deepen existing connections and make some new ones, in the financial capital of the world. Chile is known for doing business internationally, and the global links of London are able to lubricate this business.
The UK has a lot to offer, whether in terms of the leading stock exchange for international listings providing access to financing, world-renowned asset managers providing access to investment opportunities or the world’s leading international insurance centre protecting Chilean assets. In addition the UK is a great place to expand your business. On 14 October our bilateral investment seminar, held in conjunction with the Chilean Embassy in London, will explain why the UK is the number one location in Europe for a regional headquarters, as well as provide access to British contacts interested in investing in Chile.
There are strong commercial ties between the UK and Chile, and we hope that Chile Day 2014 will lead to further development of trade and investment between our countries.
Thanks to all for attending today. I am looking forward to joining you all in a few weeks for the most successful Chile Day yet.
