Updated: Immediate changes required after resumption of UK Visa service in Iran.

The British Embassy represents the UK in Iran. Our job is to support the relationship between the UK and Iran by working closely with the Iranian authorities on bilateral and international issues and by deepening our understanding of Iran and its people. We have shared interests in a wide range of subjects, including a stable region and effective implementation of the nuclear deal; but believe it is equally important that we have a dialogue on issues where we have differences.

There is a sizeable Iranian community in the UK and Iran continues to attract considerable interest within the UK from academics, artists and ordinary citizens. We hope that in the future these links will develop and flourish.

Consular services including emergency travel documents

Re-establishing a full consular service is a priority for us, and we hope to be in a position to offer this within a few months.

If you need routine consular assistance in Iran you should contact the Foreign and Commonwealth Office on +44 20 7008 1500. If you need emergency consular assistance, including an emergency travel document, you should contact the Swedish Embassy in Tehran (+98 21 2371 2200).

Any British nationals in Iran applying for their first British passport or requiring a passport renewal should use other passports (if they hold dual nationality) to exit Iran and make a full validity UK passport application elsewhere. Full details on how to apply for a new UK passport can be found on the passports page.
