The following summary of planned new and ongoing road improvements over the coming week is correct as of Friday 2 September but could be subject to change due to weather conditions or unforeseen circumstances. All our improvement work is carried out with the aim of causing as little disruption as possible.
A1 junction 56 Barton to junction 51 Leeming Bar
There will be phases of overnight lane closures and full carriageway closures while work takes place to upgrade the road to motorway standards. There will also be narrow lanes and a 50mph speed restriction 24 hours a day. From Monday 5 to Wednesday 7 September there will be a closure northbound between junction 50 and Scotch Corner and southbound between Scotch Corner and junction 51. Then from Thursday 8 to Saturday 10 September there will be a closure northbound between junction 50 and Scotch Corner with a partial closure of Scotch Corner roundabout. All these closures will take place between 8pm and 6am, with diversions in place. The project is due to be completed by summer 2017.
A1 Blaydon Haugh Viaduct, Newcastle Upon Tyne
There is a 50mph limit in operation over Blaydon Haugh Viaduct due to the installation of temporary plates over defective viaduct joints. There will be weekly night time northbound closures planned to monitor and maintain the bridging plates.
A1 Morpeth, Northumberland
There will be work ongoing until spring 2017 for the construction of a bypass. There will be various phases of daytime and night time lane and carriageway closures, with narrow lanes and a 40mph speed restriction in place. There will also be a 24 hour lane closure in place north and southbound until the project is completed.
A1M junctions 60 to 59, County Durham
There will be a carriageway closure southbound for resurfacing work. This will take place from Monday 5 to Friday 9 September between 8pm and 6am.
A66 Bowes to Cumbrian Border, County Durham
There will be various lane closures east and westbound 24 hours a day for maintenance works. This will take place until mid October. There will also be night time traffic lights and convoy working on the eastbound carriageway between 8pm and 6am for resurfacing work. This will take place until Thursday 8 September.
A66 Newton Grange to Elton, County Durham
There will be a carriageway closure eastbound for resurfacing work. This will take place until Wednesday 14 September between 8pm and 6am, with a diversion in place.
A66 Ravensworth, North Yorkshire
There will be traffic signals in operation east and westbound for survey work. This will take place Monday 5 and Tuesday 6 September between 8pm and 6am.
A19 Silverlink, North Tyneside
There will be various phases of overnight lane closures between 8pm and 6am for interchange improvement work. There will also be a 24 hour 30mph speed restriction with narrow lanes.
A66 Teesside Park to A19
There will be a full closure of the eastbound carriageway between the A19 Teesside Park and the A19 for resurfacing work from Monday 5 September until Wednesday 7 September. The work will be carried out overnight between 9pm and 6am.
A19 Leven Valley Viaduct
The A19 will be closed between the A174 Parkway junction and the A67 Crathorne junction overnight between 8pm and 6am for preparatory work to replace the bridge joint work on Leven Valley Viaduct. The southbound carriageway will be closed on Monday 5 and the northbound carriageway on Tuesday 6 September. The northbound carriageway will then be closed fully overnight between 8pm and 6am on Saturday 10 September for the contraflow to be installed.
A19/A66 interchange
The link road between the A66 westbound and A19 southbound will be closed overnight between 8pm and 6am on Tuesday 6 and Wednesday 7 September. The link roads from the A19 northbound carriageway to the A66 westbound and eastbound will be closed overnight between 8pm and 6am on Thursday 8 and Friday 9 September for maintenance work.
