Researchers will shortly see a number of important changes with the implementation of Pure, the University’s new research information system.

From Monday 20 February 2017, Pure will replace ePrints for depositing research outputs, although ePrints will continue as the University’s repository for web discoverability.

As part of the implementation, ePrints and Southampton ORCID websites will be disabled one week before launch, with users automatically redirected to Pure when the system goes live.

Users should check their workspaces before the ePrints freeze, scheduled for 23:59 on Sunday 12 February 2017, as items in work areas will not be included in the transfer of legacy ePrints data to Pure. The freeze will not affect discoverability via ePrints.

Since 1 April 2016, researchers have been depositing their final author manuscripts for journal articles and conference proceedings at the point of acceptance in line with HEFCE’s Open Access policy. The reporting capabilities in Pure will help to ensure Open Access compliance and the eligibility of outputs for the next Research Excellence Framework (REF).

Pure also contains information drawn from the University’s finance, student and human resources systems, providing academic staff and postgraduate students with a comprehensive overview of their research portfolio. This improved level of access should enhance opportunities for research networking and facilitate analysis of our research.

Pure is intuitive to use and a range of support is already available, including Library and Faculty-based experts as well as online user-guides which can be accessed via the Pure web pages. Comprehensive training will be provided in addition to a regular series of drop-in sessions.

Individual Faculties will provide further information to academic staff and postgraduate students.

Regular updates and information relating to Pure will appear on the systems’s Twitter (@UoS_Pure).
