This is where you have your say on what’s happening in and around Tunbridge Wells.

LETTER OF THE MONTH

TIME TO TRAVEL

It’s that exciting time of year when my husband and I start planning for our annual holiday and we have sought inspiration from your feature on Mallorca in the January issue. The vibrant art scene and stunning architecture sounds right up our street.

With the beach a stone’s throw away too, it really is the perfect destination and we cannot wait for it. Thanks for the heads up!
GEORGIA COX, MATFIELD
Ed: Sounds lovely – don’t forget to take your copy of SO and send us a pic!

WILKO WHINE

Unfortunately, the news of Wilko coming to Tunbridge Wells gives me mixed feelings.

Do we really need another chain store to further threaten the independent home and hardware shops that have closer links with the town? I am not entirely familiar with the brand, and I could be wrong and it may offer something different altogether. But let us not boycott the smaller stores just because a bigger and newer store arrives on our doorsteps. Also, I wonder where Wilko will be situated – perhaps on the old Morrisons site?
LOUISE-ANNE FOSTER, SOUTHBOROUGH
Ed: Perhaps Wilko’s wares will surprise you!

BRILLIANT BURGERS

I enjoyed your undercover eater review of Saint John’s Yard in the March issue and wanted to share that the burger deals on a Sunday entice my friends and I to visit often too. I have yet to try the vegetarian burger the reviewer ordered.

I am guilty of always going for the chicken burger, which goes down well with a pint of Harvey’s ale. Of course, the pub wins points too by displaying copies of SO magazine for me to browse through!
NATHAN STONE, TUNBRIDGE WELLS
Ed: There’s nothing better than a good burger and a good read.

TOP PUB

I was pleased to see the news of my local gastro pub being awarded for its success in your last issue. After its previous failures, the community are thrilled to now have a thriving pub on our doorstep.

The Kentish Hare serves delicious food and top quality service, they really do deserve every success.
CLAIRE WOOD, BIDBOROUGH
Ed: A good pub on your doorstep means less washing up at home…

CHAMPIONING COFFEE

As a town, Tunbridge Wells boasts a wealth of appealing independent coffee shops.

Around the High Street alone there are a number of high quality cafes to relax with a cuppa. There doesn’t seem to be an attitude of rivalry either which is nice to see. Obviously there is plenty of custom to go round and we just can’t get enough of our coffee and somewhere pleasant to drink it!
AMY LAMB, SPELDHURST
Ed: We love anywhere we can get a creamy latte!
