What is this…the 6th time I’ve been sick in the past 9 months I’ve been in Korea? I can’t believe it’s been 9 months already…time flies by. Anyway, I seem to have come down with a really bad cold. At first, on Friday night, when I headed to Seoul, I thought it was just a sore throat from teaching 5 classes of kids. However, over the weekend, the sore throat didn’t go away, and got continually worse. On Monday, the sore throat got worse, and on Tuesday, it developed into a runny nose with bouts of dizziness.

By Tuesday it was already a full blown cold. I asked to go home early after finishing my classes for the day, and passed out at 2:30pm. I was out until past 8pm, then stayed up a bit, and then headed to bed again. I probably got a total of 12 hours of sleep yesterday. The rest really helped though. I am feeling a lot better today (Wednesday). My cote and I went to the bank together, then went to some teacher’s education meeting, and then went out to a samgyupsal restaurant she knew.

As you all know, samgyupsal is my favorite Korean food. Anyway, it was DELICIOUS. It was so goooddddd. I wanna go again. I can literally eat samgyupsal everyday. You dip it in delicious sauces and usually eat it with a salad or something and lettuce wraps. Anyway, for some reason, there’s a split opinion on samgyupsal with foreigners. Some of my friends really like it, while others, really don’t. The one’s who don’t like it say it is way too fatty and oily, and they feel like a big grease ball after eating it. I just adore it; the taste of the crispy and flavorful meat, dipped in a light sauce, and wrapped in lettuce, with a spicy little salad (also often with barebequed garlic)…it always makes my mouth water.

After dinner I took a bus home, but of course, the night wouldn’t be complete without another one of my crazy Kristen incidents. If you don’t know me…the weirdest or funniest situations always happen to me. I had to use the bathroom because of all the water I had drank, and the tea at a cafe, and I couldn’t make it. 3 stops before my stop I booked it off the bus and ran into the nearest cafe (which I happen to have been to before). I sprinted into their bathroom, and after using it, on the way out, I was so embarrassed, praying no one was judging me. Anyway, once I got back outside, I had to wait around about 15 minutes until the next bus came :(

There’s not much to update about the school week, I’ve just been pushing through it with my cold. I guess there was a brief, yet funny and cute incident at school today. Lately, I’ve been trying to do more dramatic eyeliner, and my cote and students took notice. While I was walking back from the cafeteria, a group of my 4th grade students started following me around, dropping random questions in Korean.

A boy suddenly came up behind me and caught my attention, asking me why I did my makeup the way I did today. I replied, makeup? I always do my makeup like this. But I guess it was more dramatic then I assumed, because he seemed surprised, asking really? And I replied, you didn’t know? After that, I thought about it some more. And was surprised. I guess it had been more dramatic, and he had noticed. Sometimes it surprises me what little kids take notice of. Today my cote, Hyemin, commented as well, and I laughed, saying a student had pointed it out. She said she likes it, she thinks it makes me look prettier. I guess I should be consistent and work on my eyeliner game? I’m usually too lazy to do it in the mornings, and it takes way too long to draw the perfect wing.
