ACCOUNTABLE TO:  Vice President of Administration

SUMMARY OF WORK: Position is responsible for all aspects of planning, installation, maintenance and troubleshooting of all technology-related activities of the college. This includes classrooms, computer labs, servers, web, distance learning, and administrative software. The position is responsible for facilitating and effectively integrating the use of various forms of technology into instructional, student services, administrative services, and support programs through consultations with and training of faculty and staff.

JOB CHARACTERISTICS:

Nature of Work: This position performs professional and technical duties in the operation of technology components for the campus. Position must pay attention to detail and timeliness of activities. Requires long-term planning and budgeting to make effective use of funds available. Position works primarily indoors, but will occasionally involve exposure to disagreeable elements. This position will frequently perform heavy lifting (computers, servers, audio/visual equipment, and computer related hardware). Position must be able to troubleshoot problems and establish good relations with the employees, students, and the community.

Personal Contacts: Frequent contact with college employees, students, community members, and vendors. Establishing and maintaining positive working relationships is a priority in this position. Participates in committee work on a regular basis.

Supervision Received: Position is self-directed but reports to VP of Administration; receives work orders and emails concerning problems or facility needs for information and/or assistance.

Supervision Exercised: On a daily basis, position will supervise I.T. Specialist, and supervise assigned work-study students. Must train all personnel to perform job duties according to best practices to prevent loss or damage of information and equipment; and encourage positive helpful working relationships with students, coworkers and community members.

Essential Functions: Position requires ability to: communicate orally and in writing; prepare and present policies and procedures for department and institution; make long-term plans for technology deployment and management that align with the Strategic Plan of the Institution; manage significant budgets using standard accounting practices; manage records and equipment where errors could severely disrupt operations and cause irrecoverable loss; procure bids verbally and in writing; visually demonstrate and inspect equipment; prioritize work; operate a computer and related equipment; troubleshoot computer and network problems; oversite of DCC website, train or provide training for faculty and staff in use of technology; maintain inventory; purchase, install and maintain technological equipment and software; purchase, install and maintain audio/visual equipment.

AREAS OF JOB ACCOUNTABILITY AND PERFORMANCE:

Computer Network Management:

Install and maintain network infrastructure

Install and maintain client and server hardware and software.

Stay abreast of network technologies through training, peer advisory, trade publications, and electronic resources.

Track and isolate network faults and abuses

Install and maintain printers and copiers.

Telecommunications/Internet:

Provide technical assistance with phones.

Evaluate and make recommendations on bandwidth and connectivity needs

Install, maintain, and evaluate connections with MUS and local ISPs.

Audio/Visual:

Responsible for all A/V equipment including TV’s, DVD players, projectors, interactive boards, overheads, sound equipment, projection screens, document cameras, video cameras, and digital cameras.

Technology Committee:

Chairs Technology Committee

Direct committee meetings and purchases: servers, desktops, software, etc.

Address concerns raised during meetings

Manage Technology Fee budget

Administrative Computing (Sungard Banner & legacy system):

Provide first-line technical support for software issues, and escalate other concerns to appropriate support personnel at UM and Ellucian.

Maintain Banner documentation folder for employees

Coordinate software updates to Banner Finance, Banner Financial Aid, Banner Student, Banner HR, and Banner Self-Service.

Setup and maintain various aspects of Banner Self-Service via Web Tailor.

Work with employees to generate reports used on a regular basis

Responsible for security and confidentiality of sensitive student and employee records.

Install and maintain upgrades for web server software.

Develop forms and content on web site using HTML, CSS, and PHP

Servers:

Evaluate, Install, and maintain server-grade computing hardware.

Maintain the following network services: DNS, DHCP, File Shares, Active Directory, Apache2, MySQL, Anti-virus (ESET), WSUS, FOG.

Monitor and maintain backups of mission critical files.

Monitor and maintain security of institutional data.

Installation and maintenance of server operating systems: Windows Server 2008, Ubuntu Linux, Debian Linux

Manage Google Apps accounts and services

Ensure emergency alert systems are operating correctly for employee and student safety.

JOB REQUIREMENTS:

Knowledge: This position requires an extensive knowledge of set-up, repair, and maintenance of computer hardware and software. Knowledge of local area network set-up and maintenance including fiber optic and copper wiring. Knowledge of Internet technologies and A/V equipment. Knowledge of operating systems, including Windows, Linux, and Mac OS.

Skills: This positions requires skill in set-up, repair, and maintenance of computer and technological systems. Skill in software and hardware troubleshooting. Skills in equipment and software training.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

The above knowledge, skills, and abilities are typically acquired through a combination of education and experience equivalent to:

A Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Information Systems, Computer Science, or a related degree and/or equivalent experience in a related field/college setting.

Three or more years experience with computer hardware and software installation, networking, and maintenance.

Must be able to be bonded and submit to a criminal background check.

Must possess valid MT drivers license.
