POSITION: Coffee Barista/Concession Worker (Temporary, part-time)
DEPARTMENT: Coffee Shop – Administrative Services
REPORTS TO: Coffee Shop Manager
SALARY: $9.00 per hour
SUMMARY OF WORK:
Bucs Brew is our on campus coffee shop where students and the public are served coffees, teas, specialty and protein drinks, baked goods, muffins, soup and concession menu items. This position is responsible for serving all products with enthusiastic, friendly, individualized attention towards each customer. He or she will also greet the public, prospective and current students, families and visitors as they enter the Toepke Center, answering questions, preparing and serving coffee, drinks, snacks and concessions, stock shelves and operate the cash register. Other job duties may include but are not limited to decorating, helping with events, and cleaning. A working knowledge of the College is expected as well as being up to date on College classes and programs offered, special events on campus, and the ability to give directions to visitors. Students are the reason we have a campus coffee shop and should be catered to and welcomed. Participation in student and public programs is a requirement, providing assistance and planning for events such as game board nights, open mic nights, ASB functions, student club functions and various public and civic group functions as well. This position will provide back up and occasionally cover for the Campus Store when needed.
SUMMARY OF ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
Sales/Customer Service
Work with the public and students in a pleasant and professional manner, provide information regarding the campus, program offerings and campus events.
Sells and serves products to customers in a courteous and friendly manner.
Participates in all sales promotions/functions effectively and efficiently
Safely handles all hot and cold drinks during drink preparation
Verbally receives and prepares customer orders in a friendly matter
Reports all customer complaints to coffee shop manager the same day received
Responds pro-actively to prevent customer service situations
Accurately rings sales orders into cash register and counts back change to customers in a courteous and friendly manner
Answers telephone in a courteous and friendly manner including but not limited to appropriate greeting, directions to location, receiving and filling customer orders
Answers customers questions regarding coffee blends, preparations, etc in a courteous and friendly manner
Sells and serves baked goods, concession menu items and miscellaneous food items to customers
Maintains efficient, friendly service standards.
Handles difficult customers or situations in a professional manner.
Counts money correctly.
Open or close Coffee Shop occasionally.
Varied shifts could include early morning, evenings and weekends.
Store Operations
Restocks shelves when necessary
Routinely cleans the coffee shop area, floor, windows, grinders, takes out trash, etc
Assists in the distribution of weekly shipments
Reports potential safety hazard to the coffee shop manager the same day discovered
Reports all employee accidents to the Coffee Shop manager immediately
Informs the coffee Shop manager of any operation inconsistencies
Employee Development
Perpetuates the College mission statement, core themes and strategic plan, philosophies and culture
Maintains a high level of motiviation to ensure quality and consistent product, student and public satisfaction
Product Knowledge
Ensures customers are educated on products and services
Maintains the highest quality, consistent product standards
Follows drink recipes and college procedures
Passes all required certifications to prepare and serve in the coffee shop
Visual Presentation
Assists in maintaining a clean, well-merchandised area
Assists in decorating and marketing the College, Coffee Shop, etc
Requirements
Able to train new employees
Run errands when needed
Work special events, as needed
Maintain positive college morale
Work efficiently and accurately without immediate supervision
Support the college by using positive comments and enthusiasm when answering questions, providing directions and customer service
Physical Demands
Regularly required to stand, walk, talk and hear
Frequently required to use hand to finger motions, handle or feel objects, reach with hands and arms
Regulary required to lift and/or move items up to 25 pounds
Vision requirements: Close vision, distance vision and ability to adjust and focus
Regularly required to handle food and hot beverages
Work Schedule
Multiple individuals will hold this position
An employee can expect to work 2-3 hrs a day but no more than 20 hours/week
Shifts will initially be Monday-Friday between 7:00am-2:00pm; but will eventually expand to potentially being Sunday-Saturday from 6:00am to 10:00pm
Employees are expected to conform to the posted work schedule, reliably work set hours as assigned, be punctual, etc.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
Must be outgoing and work well with others.
Ability to prepare coffee, drinks, concession menu items, serve the public and count back change.
Excellent verbal and written skills
Well organized and detail orientated
Supporter of the College verbally and in action
Register and cash handling experience
Minimum high school diploma or equivalent
Good hygiene is a must.
Dress appropriately for a coffee shop setting.
PREFERRED REQUIREMENTS:
Barista or restaurant experience.
Previous cash register and credit card machine experience.
