Jaycee Horn sees South Carolina
Six days after he visited South Carolina for junior day, 3-star cornerback Jaycee Horn (Alpharetta, Ga.) picked up an offer from Alabama.
With SEC offers from Auburn, Georgia, Mississippi State, Missouri, Ole Miss, South Carolina and Tennessee, Horn figures to be one of the top commodities for the 2018 cycle.
The Gamecocks certainly made a strong impression while he was on campus for junior day.

“It was a good visit. I talked to coach Muschamp and (defensive backs) coach (Travaris) Robinson. They just let me know everything,” Horn said. “I liked the school. Overall, it was a pretty good visit.”
The coaches shared a bit of their history with the No. 54 cornerback in the Class of 2018.
“The success they had with other defensive backs like Quincy Wilson, Jalen Tabor, Vernon Hargreaves,” Horn said. “They had all those guys and now they’re getting drafted in the first round. That was one of the main messages they had for me.”
Horn (6-1, 170) liked what he saw on campus.
“The facilities, I think they were top of the line. I also visited the dorm rooms. They were top of the line also,” he said. “Everything was great about the campus. I’m going to go back up there soon and visit.”
This spring, he plans to visit Louisville, Missouri, Ole Miss, Virginia Tech, Wake Forest and West Virginia.
Pinckney returns
Last summer, South Carolina gave 2019 wide receiver Jacoby Pinckney (Roebuck, S.C.) his first offer. Appalachian State, Duke and Wake Forest have since jumped on board.
The 6-foot-3, 190-pound prospect from Dorman High School returned to South Carolina in February for junior day.
“It went well. I had fun,” Pinckney said.
He arrived in time for practice, to watch assistant coach Bryan McClendon work with the wide receivers.
“I liked the intensity and the commitment in which they practice. Even though it was the first day, everybody was competing,” Pinckney said. “It was pretty intense, even though it was the first day. I already knew what kind of a coach he is. He’s going to teach you. Everything you do, he’s going to correct you, add his input. I already know what to expect on that end.”
Before the end of the trip, Pinckney spoke 1-on-1 with running backs coach Bobby Bentley, who’s his area recruiter.
“It was just saying hello and catching up with coach Bentley. He was asking me how I thought I fit in with the offense, how I liked what I see and just the feel of things,” Pinckney said.
Virginia Tech hosted him for a visit in January. He’ll visit North Carolina later this month.
According to 247Sports, Pinckney is the No. 14 wide receiver in the Class of 2019.
In-state developments
In the 2017 recruiting cycle, South Carolina and Clemson squared off for 4-star wide receiver OrTre Smith.
On Saturday, while he was on campus for junior day, 3-star wide receiver Dennis Smith (Gaffney, S.C.) was offered by Clemson.
Time will tell if the Gamecocks can win the next battle for one of the state’s best playmakers.
