A former NFL assistant coach reportedly was expected to interview for Alabama’s offensive coordinator position.

As reported by BamaOnline.com, George Godsey was to interview Wednesday for the role, which was left open after Steve Sarkisian was hired to be the Atlanta Falcons’ offensive coordinator on Tuesday.

Godsey was the Houston Texans’ offensive coordinator during the 2015 and ’16 seasons. He was the Texans’ quarterbacks coach in 2014. Prior to that stint, he was an offensive assistant (2011) and tight ends coach (2012-13) with the New England Patriots.

Godsey also has experience coaching in college. He began as a graduate assistant at UCF before becoming that program’s quarterbacks coach in 2005, then its running backs coach in 2009-10.

Earlier Wednesday, it was reported that former Oregon coach Chip Kelly had “no interest” in becoming Alabama’s offensive coordinator.
