The new board of the Dhaka chapter of The Indus Entrepreneurs (TiE) Global, world’s largest network of Entrepreneurs, took charge yesterday during a meeting held in its Gulshan office.

Shameem Ahsan, former President of Bangladesh Association Software and Information Services (BASIS) became the new President of TiE Dhaka while Farzana Chowdhury, a leading figure in the IT and the insurance industry of the country has become the new Vice President.

Shamim Ahsan earlier served TiE Dhaka as its founding Vice President. Currently he is serving as the Chairman of eGeneration Ltd. and BAGDOOM.com. Ahsan is also the General Partner of the Fenox Venture Capital and the Chairman of Venture Capital and Private Equity Association of Bangladesh (VCPEAB). Shamim Ahsan is also a Director of FBCCI and Agrani Bank Ltd.

Farzana Chowdhury, the new Vice President of TiE Dhaka is a Chartered Insurer. She also holds the unique distinction of being the first female CEO in the Bangladesh Insurance Industry. She is the Managing Director and CEO of Green Delta Insurance Co. Ltd, one of the leading private non-life insurance companies in Bangladesh.

In the new board, Qantara Khan, Director, Green Engineering & Development Ltd. will be serving as Treasurer.

The other board directors are Hossain Khaled, Managing Director, Anwar Group and the immediate Past President of Dhaka Chambers of Commerce and Industry, Rubaba Dowla, Founder, PlusOne Services; Tahsin Aman, Vice Chairman, Aman Group, Sharif Zahir, Managing Director, Ananta Group, Tareen Hossain Manju, Executive Director, The Daily Ittefaq and Nafeesa Kamal, Director, Lotus Kamal Group.

Sonia Bashir Kabir, Manager Director, Microsoft Bangladesh who has been the President for the previous term will be serving as Advisor this time.

TiE was founded in 1992 in Silicon Valley by a group of successful entrepreneurs, corporate executives, and senior professionals with roots in the Indus region. There are currently 13,000 members, including over 2,500 charter members in 61 chapters across 18 countries. TiE’s mission is to foster entrepreneurship globally through mentoring, networking, education, incubating, and funding.

TiE launched its Bangladesh chapter in Dhaka in February, 2014 aiming to foster entrepreneurship. The categories of membership for TiE Dhaka is available for entrepreneurs. Regular membership to TiE is open to anyone, whereas charter membership is strictly by invitation and membership fees vary by category of membership.
