Melbourne’s only professional baseball team the Jet Courier Melbourne Aces have just recorded their second come from behind win in as many nights against the Australian Baseball League’s defending champions, the Brisbane Bandits.

The Aces were spearheaded tonight by 10-year Major League Baseball veteran and 2015 World Series Champion Jeremy Guthrie, pitching for the first time as an Ace at Melbourne Ballpark.

Guthrie’s would throw 6.0 innings, striking out six Bandits while allowing just four hits and a single run.

Game 1: Thursday 5 January Melbourne Aces 4 defeat Brisbane Bandits 3

Game 2: Friday 6 January Melbourne Aces 5 defeat Brisbane Bandits 3

Game 3: Saturday 7 January, 6.30PM

Game 4: Sunday 8 January, 1.00PM

The Aces move their season record to 20-6, 6.5 games clear of the second placed Adelaide Bite and Canberra Cavalry.

Tonight’s win marks the first time in Melbourne Aces history the Club will record a .500 record on the season.

With the League’s minor premiers automatically qualifying for the Championship Series, it appears more and more likely the Aces are destined to not only play in, but host the 2016/17 Australian Baseball League Championships Series.
