L.A. Times Poll: Donald Trump Edges Ahead of Hillary Clinton 43-40

16 July 2016 by Tom Tancredo

Like millions of constitutional conservatives, I was an ardent Ted Cruz supporter while he was a viable candidate.

I wish he had won the Indiana primary and had overtaken Donald Trump is the race to the Cleveland national convention. But he didn’t. As the convention opens, it’s time for conservatives and patriots to unify behind the only candidate who can defeat Hillary Clinton, and that is Donald Trump.

There are no other choices, no other options, if the goal is to stop Hillary Rodham Clinton from continuing Barack Hussein Obama’s radical transformation of the country we love.  Trump is not the second coming of Ronald Reagan, but he is the only real obstacle to the coronation of Queen Hillary. That’s why patriots must now support his candidacy.

Of course, some people have other goals besides defeating Hillary. Some want Trump to lose in order to “save the Republican Party from itself.” They remind me of the Rockefeller-Romney establishment liberals who sat out the 1964 presidential election so “Goldwater conservatism” would not take over the Republican party. We know how that worked out: with Lyndon Johnson we got the fiascos of the Great Society, the unwinnable Vietnam War — and Richard Nixon.

Many patriots can and do have serious misgivings about Donald Trump, as I do. I wish he would be more consistent in opposing Obamacare and the single-payer option, a euphemism for government takeover of medical care. I wish he had a better record on abortion. And I wish we could count on Republicans in Congress to hold fast to principles if Trump starts putting “deal-making” above fidelity to the party platform and American sovereignty.

Yes, many good people have misgivings about Donald Trump. But folks, the stakes are simply too high in 2016 to engage in self-indulgent puritanism. The undeniable reality is that constitutional liberty is already on life support, and Hillary has a plan to pull the plug. Will we stop her or will we give tacit assent to the destruction of America by wasting our energy and our votes on futile, utopian gestures?

This may come as a surprise to some ardent constitutionalists, but there is no perfect candidate. Even Ronald Reagan occasionally made mistakes, went down blind alleys and cut deals he later regretted.

As Governor of California in 1966, he signed the state’s liberal abortion law.

In the very first year of his first term as President, he gave up on his campaign promise to abolish that symbol of federal overreach, the Department of Education.

Then in 1982 he raised taxes and in 1986 he signed the nation’s first amnesty bill.

My point is that constitutional conservatives have decades of experience with flawed politicians. There is no doubt conservatism can survive the uncertainties of a Trump presidency. But it is far from certain that the United States Constitution or American sovereignty can survive a third term of Obama’s “transformative justice.”

Yes, our misgivings about Trump are valid reasons for concern. But there are a few overriding issues which are decisive —  if we put the survival of our country ahead of all other questions.

When all is said and done, there are three critical issues facing the country where a Trump presidency is clearly preferable to the transformative, globalist, anti-liberty agenda of Queen Hillary.

Critical issue number one is illegal immigration. From the beginning of his campaign, Trump has made border security and control of illegal immigration the cornerstone of his candidacy, and his minions have put strong language on that issue into the 2016 GOP Platform. By contrast, Hillary has promised to double down on Obama’s executive amnesty.

Critical issue number two: Islamist terrorism. Trump has spoken out often on the need to halt the admission of Muslim refugees with radical Islamist  sympathies, while Hillary has promised to further accelerate the “resettlement” of Muslim refugees. The contrast could not be sharper. With Trump, at least we have a chance for commonsense to break through the fog of globalist idiocy.

Critical issue number three: The Second Amendment. If Hillary Clinton make the next two or three Supreme Court appointments, the Second Amendment will be abandoned by reinterpretation. You want to purchase and own a 18th Century musket? Fine. A semi-automatic rifle? No way.

Newt Gingrich’s advocacy this past week of new laws to make belief in Shariah Law a deportable offense for Muslims already in the United States created a firestorm. Good. We need a political firestorm now if we are to prevent a real one later.

Gingrich’s proposal is similar to one I made as a congressman in September of 2008, when I introduced a bill to bar admission of immigrants or refugees who adhered to Shariah law and allowed the deportation of Muslims who advocate Shariah law. Gingrich’s proposal is not unconstitutional as Hugh Hewitt and other establishment figures retorted — because we are talking about immigrants and  refugees, not citizens.

I believe Gingrich’s proposal is politically significant far beyond its likely condemnation in the editorial pages of the New York Times and the Denver Post. Gingrich was one of the three finalists for Trump’s choice as Vice President running mate, and he is firmly entrenched in the Washington Republican establishment.

Gingrich’s belated awakening to the imminent dangers of Shariah means that the blinders are coming off. Nothing can prevent this from being one of the defining issues of the 2016 presidential campaign.

Now, there are many Republicans — Paul Ryan comes to mind — who will have a knee-jerk, chamber of commerce reaction to any proposal to limit immigration by radicalized Muslims who follow Shariah Law. They will tell Trump to stay away from such ideas, that “America must be more inclusive.”

Ask yourself this: Who is more likely to resist those politically correct warnings, Donald Trump or Hillary Clinton?  Or maybe Gary Johnson, the libertarian party candidate, who just this week said that the threat of terrorism is “highly overblown”?

That question answers itself. Patriots must support Donald Trump, who has made Political Correctness synonymous with stupidity.

Trump on Pence as VP: ‘We Are the Law and Order Candidates’

16 July 2016 by Alex Swoyer

NEW YORK CITY, New York — Presumptive Republican nominee Donald Trump officially announced Indiana Gov. Mike Pence as his running mate in a tweet on Friday, but the two appeared together for the first time in New York City on Saturday morning, where the billionaire touted the duo as the “law and order candidates.”

“I found the leader who will help us deliver a safe society,” Trump said of his “first choice” for vice president (VP), Pence. “We are the law and order candidates.”

Speaking to a group of roughly 300 supporters inside a ballroom at the Hilton in Midtown Manhattan, Trump added, “I’ve admired the work he’s done especially in the state of Indiana.”

Trump said Pence will help him fix the “rigged system” in Washington, D.C. “He fights for the people and he’s going to fight for you,” Trump added, calling Pence “a solid person.”

The billionaire said “one of the reasons is part of unity” for why Pence was tapped as his VP. As an outsider, he suggested Pence – who has experience both in Congress and as a governor – can help unite the party. Trump also praised Pence’s record on decreasing unemployment in Indiana, increasing the labor force, growing private sector jobs and balancing the budget.

The real estate mogul compared the Indiana governor, who he said is a “man of honor,” to presumptive Democratic nominee Hillary Clinton, who Trump labeled a “corrupt person.”

The presumptive Republican nominee took time to comment on the recent terrorist attack in Nice, France and the turmoil in Turkey, blaming presumptive Democratic nominee Hillary Clinton and President Obama for the unrest and terrorism across the world.

“We’ve witnessed horror beyond belief. No matter where you look and now it’s happening more and more,” Trump added about terrorism. “We need new leadership. We need new thinking. We need strength. We need in our country law and order and if I’m elected president, that will happen.”

“After four years of Clinton who really led the way and led Obama down a horrible path because I don’t even think she could have made these decisions so badly… Iraq, Syria – all into chaos – and Iran is on a path to nuclear weapons,” Trump criticized of his rival, the former secretary of state. “Now we’re seeing unrest in Turkey – a further demonstration of the failures of Obama-Clinton.”

The presumptive Republican nominee originally planned to appear with Pence on Friday morning in New York City, but due to the terrorist attack in Nice, France on Thursday night the event was postponed until Saturday.

“I thank Donald Trump with the confidence you’ve placed in us,” Pence said referencing his family when he took the podium after the billionaire introduced him. “I come to this moment deeply humbled.”

Trump’s VP said he was grateful to God for the opportunity to be Trump’s running mate, saying the billionaire will bring no-nonsense leadership to Washington, D.C.

“Donald Trump is a good man and he will make a great President of the United States of America,” he praised. “Donald Trump understands the frustrations and the hopes of the American people [like no one has] since Ronald Reagan.”

The Indiana governor praised Trump’s strength and leadership in comparison to Clinton.

Pence had endorsed Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) during the Indiana GOP primary — but sang praise for Trump as well during the primary endorsement — and in early May, Pencevowed that he would back the presumptive Republican nominee.

The billionaire commented on Pence’s earlier endorsement of Cruz, joking about how he also praised Trump During Cruz’s endorsement.

“He talked about Trump… Ted – then he went back to Trump,” the presumptive Republican nominee recalled. “I said, ‘Who did he endorse?’”

The crowd laughed, and Trump added, “It was the single greatest non-endorsement I’ve ever had.”

Following the joint appearance together in New York City, Pence is traveling back to his home state for a “Welcome Home Rally” in Zionsville, Indiana scheduled for Saturday night.

L.A. Times Poll: Donald Trump Edges Ahead of Hillary Clinton

15 July 2016 by BREITBART NEWS

A five-day tracking poll backed by the Los Angeles Times shows Donald Trump leading Hillary Clinton, 43 percent to 40 percent.

The California newspaper hid the actual poll numbers in the eighth paragraph, including the news that Trump has the support of at least 30 percent of Hispanics.

The five-day poll include multiple answers on different days from more than 3,000 people, and it shows familiar splits;

The poll shows big gaps along the lines of race, gender, age and education that have surfaced consistently during the campaign. Through Thursday’s results, Trump led among men, 47%  to 36%, while Clinton had a smaller, 41%-34% edge among women. Trump led among voters 45 and older, Clinton among those younger.

Some of Trump’s strongest support comes from white voters who have not graduated from college, among whom he led 53% to 24%. Clinton, by contrast, dominates among minorities, leading 77% to 3% among blacks and 51% to 30% among Latinos.

Clinton also held a narrow edge among white college graduates, 42% to 40%. If she wins that group, Clinton would be the first Democrat to carry white college graduates since polls began asking such demographic questions in the early 1950s.

Many of those splits have narrowed in favor of Trump, according to the L.A. Times poll. For example, Clinton’s lead among women is only seven points, according to the poll, while Trump has an 11-point lead among men.

Also, the poll shows Clinton with support from only 51 percent of Hispanics, and Trump with 30 percent support. That leaves 19 percent uncommitted, which suggests that Trump’s Hispanic ballot-box support may be significantly higher than 30 percent.

In 2012, GOP candidate Mitt Romney scored only 27 percent of the Latino vote, while President Barack Obama got 71 percent.

Still, the poll shows both candidates in the low 40s — suggesting that 15 percent of voters have yet to admit picking either of the two candidates.

Mike Pence Delivers Rousing Call for GOP Unity: ‘Elections Are About Choices, So Join Us’

16 July 2016 by Neil W. McCabe

Presumptive GOP nominee Donald J. Trump introduced Indiana Gov. Mike Pence as his choice for vice-president Monday, and Pence delivered a remarkable call for Republican unity.

“To every American, who shares our convictions, join us,” said the former congressman in the same room in the Midtown Manhattan Hilton hotel where Ronald W. Reagan launched his own campaign for president in 1979.

In a strong, measured voice, Pence made his case for Republicans to refocus on the binary choice ahead of the Nation in November. He spoke of values and presented images of his own development with a “front row seat to the American Dream” and “a cornfield in the backyard.” Then, in addition to naming members of his family and thanking and praisingTrump, the other two name checks were Reagan and the late Associate Justice on the Supreme Court, Antonin Scalia.

“Seven-and-a-half years of Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton’s policies have weakened America’s place in the world and stymied our nation’s economy,” he said in a preview of the prosecution of Clinton he will plead for the next four months and a reminder to rogue Republican elements it is time to come in from the cold and stop Obama’s third term.

In a litany of examples, Pence set out all of the issues, Obamacare, coal, taxes, secure borders, where Trump stands with conservatives and what Clinton will do if Republicans do not rally to elect Trump.

He was especially specific when it came to what a Supreme Court fashioned with Clinton appointees would do.

“Hillary Clinton will appoint Supreme Court justices, who will legislate from the bench, abandon the sanctity of life and re-write our Second Amendment,” he said.

Although Pence joined the House GOP leadership at the end of his tenure on Capitol Hill, he was with conservative insurgents fighting leadership’s constant urge to go-along-to-get-along with Democrats and entrenched power in Washington. Before joining leadership in 2009 as the Chairman of the House Republican Conference, he led the Republican Study Committee, which was then know as the conservative bloc inside the party’s members. Under Pence, the RSC, which was founded to correct the leftward shift of of the GOP under President Richard Nixon, had a whip operation to hold its members together as a concentrated force.

Pence left Congress to run for governor of his home state in 2012, and in his remarks he gave a hint to the frustration with Washington to brought him back home.

“We like to say Indiana is a state that works,” he said. “Indiana works because Republican principles work whenever you put them into practice.”

In the week leading up to the Republican National Convention that starts Monday in Cleveland, remnants of the presidential campaign of Sen. Ted Cruz (R.-Texas), including a man who calls Cruz his best friend Sen. Michael S. Lee (R.-Utah), and the leader of theSenate Conservative Fund Ken Cuccinelli, fought inside the party’s Rules Committee to unbind delegates won by Trump and others in the four months of primaries and caucuses across the country. At the same time, Cruz is shuffling his Senate and Kitchen cabinets to set up for a presidential run in 2020.

When Trump mentioned Cruz before introducing Pence, he said the Texan was “a good guy”; a good guy scheduled to speak at the convention without committing to an endorsement. This made Cruz the man who was not there. It also stood in opposition to the way things were back in the winter, when Cruz refused to criticize Trump, hoping to scoop up his supporters after the New York City developer stumbled out of the race. Back then, Trump’s own campaign team talked about Cruz joining Trump as VP to forge an unstoppable combination against Hillary Clinton.

Instead of Cruz, or anyone else, it is Pence running with Trump, and it is Pence trying to forge an unstoppable combination against Clinton–and making that case to Republicans on the eve of their convention.

The governor said, “Elections are about choices and I also joined this ticket because the choice could not be more clear and the stakes could not not be higher.”

Pence said Americans can vote for Trump, who will rebuild America’s economy and make her safe, “Or, they can choose somebody, who literally personifies the failed establishment in Washington.”

“For the sake of our security, for the sake of our prosperity, for the sake of a Supreme Court that will never turn its back on our God-given liberties,” Pence said. “Let’s come together as a party, as a people and as a movement to “Make America Great Again” and that day begins when Donald Trump becomes the 45th president of the United States of America.”

Sarah Palin Congratulates Mike Pence, Calls for Unity to Win

16 July 2016

Former Alaska governor and 2008 GOP vice presidential nominee Sarah Palin offered her congratulations to Indiana governor Mike Pence on being chosen as Donald Trump’s running mate.

Palin posted the following to her Facebook page:

CONGRATULATIONS PENCE FAMILY; Illegitimi non carborundum

In this clash of civilizations, the courageous, unrelenting fight for America’s future is beyond paramount. If eyes are not open to this after the latest Islamic attack, then one may be hopelessly lost in the fake utopian world into which the Left sucks the gullible.

Congratulations to Gov. Mike Pence on being chosen to run for Vice President. Pence is an accomplished Indiana politician with decades of politics under his belt. He is a devoted family man, and he is a gentleman. He will serve well as Trump’s partner; Trump’s second in command.

Commonsense, independent patriots must now be wholly united and involved in this election process. Recognizing the nation’s enemies hellbent on decimating us militarily and economically, it’s wise to insist gentlemanly politics to take a back seat to the fighting Warrior spirit that must drive all our leaders in this upcoming epic battle for America’s security, solvency and sovereignty. A GOP team is now set to win that battle through strengthening our military, our Supreme Court, our balance sheet, and our common resolve to finally put America first.

Congratulations to the Pence family: stand your ground and fight alongside your dad through the coming months and years of scrutiny. Illegitimi non carborundum.
