“A government which will turn its tanks upon its people, for any reason, is a government with a taste of blood and a thirst for power and must either be smartly rebuked, or blindly obeyed in deadly fear.”—John Salter

We have entered into a particularly dismal chapter in the American narrative, one that shifts us from a swashbuckling tale of adventure into a bone-chilling horror story.

As I document in my new book Battlefield America: The War on the American People, “we the people” have now come full circle, from being held captive by the British police state to being held captive by the American police state. In between, we have charted a course from revolutionaries fighting for our independence and a free people establishing a new nation to pioneers and explorers, braving the wilderness and expanding into new territories.

Where we went wrong, however, was in allowing ourselves to become enthralled with and then held hostage by a military empire in bondage to a corporate state (the very definition of fascism). No longer would America hold the moral high ground as a champion of freedom and human rights. Instead, in the pursuit of profit, our overlords succumbed to greed, took pleasure in inflicting pain, exported torture, and imported the machinery of war, transforming the American landscape into a battlefield, complete with military personnel, tactics and weaponry.

To our dismay, we now find ourselves scrambling for a foothold as our once rock-solid constitutional foundation crumbles beneath us. And no longer can we rely on the president, Congress, the courts, or the police to protect us from wrongdoing.

Indeed, they have come to embody all that is wrong with America.

For instance, how does a man who is relatively healthy when taken into custody by police lapse into a coma and die while under their supervision? What kind of twisted logic allows a police officer to use a police car to run down an American citizen and justifies it in the name of permissible deadly force? And what country are we living in where the police can beat, shoot, choke, taser and tackle American citizens, all with the protection of the courts?

Certainly, the Constitution’s safeguards against police abuse means nothing when government agents can crash through your door, terrorize your children, shoot your dogs, and jail you on any number of trumped of charges, and you have little say in the matter. For instance, San Diego police, responding to a domestic disturbance call on a Sunday morning, showed up at the wrong address, only to shoot the homeowner’s 6-year-old service dog in the head.

Rubbing salt in the wound, it’s often the unlucky victim of excessive police force who ends up being charged with wrongdoing. Although 16-year-old Thai Gurule was charged with resisting arrest and strangling and assaulting police officers, a circuit judge found that it was actually the three officers who unlawfully stopped, tackled, punched, kneed, tasered and yanked his hair who were at fault. Thankfully, bystander cell phone videos undermined police accounts, which were described as “works of fiction.”

Not even our children are being spared the blowback from a growing police presence. As one juvenile court judge noted in testimony to Congress, although having police on public school campuses did not make the schools any safer, it did result in large numbers of students being arrested for misdemeanors such as school fights and disorderly conduct. One 11-year-old autistic Virginia student was charged with disorderly conduct and felony assault after kicking a trashcan and resisting a police officer’s attempt to handcuff him. A 14-year-old student was tasered by police, suspended and charged with disorderly conduct, resisting arrest and trespassing after he failed to obey a teacher’s order to be the last student to exit the classroom.

There is no end to the government’s unmitigated gall in riding roughshod over the rights of the citizenry, whether in matters of excessive police powers, militarized police, domestic training drills, SWAT team raids, surveillance, property rights, overcriminalization, roadside strip searches, profit-driven fines and prison sentences, etc.

The president can now direct the military to detain, arrest and secretly execute American citizens. These are the powers of an imperial dictator, not an elected official bound by the rule of law. For the time being, Barack Obama wears the executioner’s robe, but you can rest assured that this mantle will be worn by whomever occupies the Oval Office in the future.

A representative government means nothing when the average citizen has little to no access to their elected officials, while corporate lobbyists enjoy a revolving door relationship with everyone from the President on down. Indeed, while members of Congress hardly work for the taxpayer, they work hard at being wooed by corporations, which spend more to lobby our elected representatives than we spend on their collective salaries. For that matter, getting elected is no longer the high point it used to be. As one congressman noted, for many elected officials, “Congress is no longer a destination but a journey… [to a] more lucrative job as a K Street lobbyist… It’s become routine to see members of Congress drop their seat in Congress like a hot rock when a particularly lush vacancy opens up.”

As for the courts, they have long since ceased being courts of justice. Instead, they have become courts of order, largely marching in lockstep with the government’s dictates, all the while helping to increase the largesse of government coffers. It’s called for-profit justice, and it runs the gamut of all manner of financial incentives in which the courts become cash cows for communities looking to make an extra buck. As journalist Chris Albin-Lackey details, “They deploy a crushing array of fines, court costs, and other fees to harvest revenues from minor offenders that these communities cannot or do not want to raise through taxation.” In this way, says Albin-Lackey, “A resident of Montgomery, Alabama who commits a simple noise violation faces only a $20 fine—but also a whopping $257 in court costs and user fees should they seek to have their day in court.”

As for the rest—the schools, the churches, private businesses, service providers, nonprofits and your fellow citizens—many are also marching in lockstep with the police state. This is what is commonly referred to as community policing. After all, the police can’t be everywhere. So how do you police a nation when your population outnumbers your army of soldiers? How do you carry out surveillance on a nation when there aren’t enough cameras, let alone viewers, to monitor every square inch of the country 24/7? How do you not only track but analyze the transactions, interactions and movements of every person within the United States? The answer is simpler than it seems: You persuade the citizenry to be your eyes and ears.

It’s a brilliant ploy, with the added bonus that while the citizenry remains focused on and distrustful of each other, they’re incapable of focusing on more definable threats that fall closer to home—namely, the government and its militarized police. In this way, we’re seeing a rise in the incidence of Americans being reported for growing vegetables in their front yard, keeping chickens in their back yard, letting their kids walk to the playground alone, and voicing anti-government sentiments. For example, after Shona Banda’s son defended the use of medical marijuana during a presentation at school, school officials alerted the police and social services, and the 11-year-old was interrogated, taken into custody by social workers, had his home raided by police and his mother arrested.

Now it may be that we have nothing to worry about. Perhaps the government really does have our best interests at heart. Perhaps covert domestic military training drills such as Jade Helm really are just benign exercises to make sure our military is prepared for any contingency. As the Washington Post describes the operation:

The mission is vast both geographically and strategically: Elite service members from all four branches of the U.S. military will launch an operation this summer in which they will operate covertly among the U.S. public and travel from state to state in military aircraft. Texas, Utah and a section of southern California are labeled as hostile territory, and New Mexico isn’t much friendlier.

Now I don’t believe in worrying over nothing, but it’s safe to say that the government has not exactly shown itself to be friendly in recent years, nor have its agents shown themselves to be cognizant of the fact that they are civilians who answer to the citizenry, rather than the other way around.

Whether or not the government plans to impose some form of martial law in the future remains to be seen, but there can be no denying that we’re being accustomed to life in a military state. The malls may be open for business, the baseball stadiums may be packed, and the news anchors may be twittering nonsense about the latest celebrity foofa, but those are just distractions from what is really taking place: the transformation of America into a war zone.

Trust me, if it looks like a battlefield (armored tanks on the streets, militarized police in metro stations, surveillance cameras everywhere), sounds like a battlefield (SWAT team raids nightly, sound cannons to break up large assemblies of citizens), and acts like a battlefield (police shooting first and asking questions later, intimidation tactics, and involuntary detentions), it’s a battlefield.

Indeed, what happened in Ocala, Florida, is a good metaphor for what’s happening across the country: Sheriff’s deputies, dressed in special ops uniforms and riding in an armored tank on a public road, pulled a 23-year-old man over and issued a warning violation to him after he gave them the finger. The man, Lucas Jewell, defended his actions as a free speech expression of his distaste for militarized police.

Translation: “We the people” are being hijacked on the highway by government agents with little knowledge of or regard for the Constitution, who are hyped up on the power of their badge, outfitted for war, eager for combat, and taking a joy ride—on taxpayer time and money—in a military tank that has no business being on American soil.

Rest assured, unless we slam on the brakes, this runaway tank will soon be charting a new course through terrain that bears no resemblance to land of our forefathers, where freedom meant more than just the freedom to exist and consume what the corporate powers dish out.

Rod Serling, one of my longtime heroes and the creator of The Twilight Zone, understood all too well the danger of turning a blind eye to evil in our midst, the “things that scream for a response.” As Serling warned, “if we don’t listen to that scream – and if we don’t respond to it – we may well wind up sitting amidst our own rubble, looking for the truck that hit us – or the bomb that pulverized us. Get the license number of whatever it was that destroyed the dream. And I think we will find that the vehicle was registered in our own name.”

If you haven’t managed to read the writing on the wall yet, the war has begun.

The Only Truly Compliant, Submissive Citizen in a Police State Is a Dead One

The Police State is HERE

Military ops on U.S. soil raise martial-law fears

Wal-Mart closures have citizens concerned

April 20, 2015 by Cheryl Chumley

Jade Helm 15 is set to kick off in seven states this summer, sending Special Operations forces from all four main branches of the military onto civilian soil to conduct hostile take-over training – and civil-rights advocates are sounding the alarms.

This is how the military describes it:

“The nature of warfare is always changing and U.S. Army Special Operations Command’s mission is to make certain the Army’s various Special Operations Forces are trained, equipped and organized to successfully conduct worldwide special operations in support of our nation’s interests,” said command spokesman Army Lt. Col. Mark Lastoria, in a statement to the Washington Post a few weeks ago. “Training exercise Jade Helm is going to assist our Special Operations Soldiers and leadership in refining the skills needed against an ever changing foreign threat.”

But plenty on social media aren’t calmed by the explanation, in part remembering the recent similar operation in Broward County, Florida, that saw Blackhawk helicopters flying above community streets while soldiers loaded citizen participants into white vans for transport to internment camps. It was all a staged exercise but for those watching, the scenes that unfolded were alarming.

“Police State USA: How Orwell’s Nightmare Is Becoming Our Reality” chronicles how America has arrived at the point of being a de facto police state, and what led to an out-of-control government that increasingly ignores the Constitution. Order today!

The looming Jade Helm exercise, set for July 15 through Sept. 15, labels Texas and Utah as hostile areas. Global Research also reported the military says New Mexico “isn’t much friendlier.” Other states participating: California, Colorado, Arizona and Nevada.

Some of the social media commentary so far: “The Pentagon’s ‘Operations Jade Helm 15′: The Floodgate towards Martial Law and World War III?”

And another: “Using Foreign Troops with Jade Helm Martial Law is TREASON.”

Yet one more poster pointed to recent reported Wal-Mart closures in Texas, California, Florida and Oklahoma with concern, saying the cited “plumbing problems” cited as the reason for the sudden shut-downs just don’t meet the smell test.

“Employees impacted by the Wal-Mart closures were given just a few hours notice about the six-month shutdown,” the blog Inquisitr wrote. “Approximately 2,200 employees will now be without a paycheck during the ‘extended repairs.’ … The abrupt Wal-Mart closures announcement has reportedly left employees confused and Americans pondering the existence of Wal-Mart underground tunnels and Operation Jade Helm conspiracy theories.”

One of the theories?

Inquisitr reports: “One of the widely circulating rumors associated with the Jade Helm Wal-Mart story on the Internet speculates that the military will use the underground tunnels to move undetected around certain states with the stores being used as either a communications hub or FEMA camps.”

The fear is ratcheted by the fact city officials who govern the areas of the impacted Wal-Marts say the stores haven’t filed any permit requests for plumbing problems, Inquisitr said.

Meanwhile, a presentation made to Big Spring, Texas, City Council members by Tom Meade, a retired special forces senior non-commissioned officer, to explain some of the upcoming Jade Helm exercises emphasized residents shouldn’t worry about private property trespasses.

“We won’t trespass on somebody’s property without the agreement of that landowner,” he said, in a YouTube video of the presentation.

He also described the operation as a joint military-interagency activity involving members of all military branches, the FBI, the DEA and other law enforcement agencies. Meade said the FBI, for example, will do some questioning at one of the airports in Arizona.

One council member asked about the operation’s involvement of NATO and U.N. personnel.

“Currently … it is U.S. only,” Meade said.

Police Raid Activist’s Home, Confiscate Son After In-school, Pro-marijuana Comments

Child suggested he favored the marijuana plant as a medicinal treatment

April 20, 2015 by Adan Salazar

The State of Kansas is threatening to confiscate a marijuana activist’s son after the child reportedly disputed the teachings of one of his instructors during a drug education lesson.

Last month, 37-year-old author and cannabis oil activist Shona Banda’s Garden City home was targeted for a police raid after her 11-year-old son made in-school comments suggesting he favored the marijuana plant as a medicinal treatment.

Banda has reportedly been using the oil as a therapy for Crohn’s disease since the early 2000s.

“My son says different things like, ‘My mom calls it cannabis and not marijuana.’ He let them know how educated he was on the facts,” Bonda said in an interview with BenSwann.com.

Banda explained that within two hours of her son making the statements, she was visited by police.

“Well, they had that drug education class at school that was just conducted by the counselors… They pulled my son out of school at about 1:40 in the afternoon and interrogated him. Police showed up at my house at 3… I let them know that they weren’t allowed in my home without a warrant… I didn’t believe you could get a warrant off of something a child says in school,” she said.

By six o’clock, police had obtained a warrant and executed a search on Banda’s home while she was away, leaving a note on her table listing the items seized: “marijuana in plant, oil, joint, gel and capsule form and drug paraphernalia,” according to The Garden City Telegram.

“Banda was then arrested and her son was seized from the home,” reports the Washington Post’s Radley Balko.

“I have not been charged with anything at this point, but I have a hard time believing that it’s OK for them to interrogate my child without parental consent for hours,” Banda said.

Meanwhile, the Department of Children and Families has taken her son into protective custody. Banda is attending a custody hearing scheduled for today to learn the outcome of her case.

Shona Banda is interviewed outside the Finney County Courthouse in Garden City. / Facebook, Shona.Banda

Banda, who had previously lived in Colorado, says despite her predicament, she’s not upset her son got her into trouble.

“For him to have spoken up in class I can’t be upset about because he hears me daily on the phone talking with people, encouraging people to speak up and speak out,” she said.

“We did have the talk about how it’s not OK to bring this up in Kansas, because it’s a different state [than Colorado]. It’s very confusing for a child,” Banda said.

Possession of any amount of marijuana, including for medicinal use, is still illegal in Kansas, though a few pro-marijuana bills are currently moving through the legislature, including one seeking to allow cannabis oil as a treatment for seizures.

A GoFundMe legal defense fund set up for Banda has raised over $25 thousand in just over six days. http://www.gofundme.com/rw8p88r?fb_action_ids=10153329618508738&fb_action_types=og.shares&fb_ref=undefined

Man Dies After Cops Break His Neck, Sever His Spine, Bruise His Brain, Snap His Leg, And Crush His Larynx

Another horrific death at the hands of insane cops

April 20, 2015 by Steve Watson

A man who was viciously attacked last week by Baltimore cops, seemingly for no reason other than being in a ‘high crime area’, has lost his struggle for life in hospital.

Freddie Gray, only 25-years-old, has become the latest victim in the epidemic of police murders of American citizens.

The aftermath of the attack was captured on video, showing Gray being hauled up from the ground, clearly with a severely broken leg, and little control over his own body.

Officers then dump him in the back of a police van.

Aside from what was a obviously brutal attack, the fact that medical professionals and an ambulance were not immediately called to the scene is criminal in itself.

The police report states that the “arrest” took place at 8:54am. An ambulance was not called to the Western District police station until half an hour later at 9:24am.

The incident occurred one week ago on Sunday 12th April. Gray has since been in critical condition in hospital in an induced coma with shattered vertebra, a broken spine, a broken leg and a crushed larynx.

“While in police custody, his spine was 80% severed at his neck,” William Murphy Jr, an attorney for Gray’s family, said in a statement on Sunday. “We believe the police are keeping the circumstances of Freddie’s death a secret until they develop a version of events that will absolve them of all responsibility.” Relatives said Gray also suffered swelling to his brain.

Because Gray was seen moving his head and speaking while being put into the back of the police wagon, family members have speculated that he was severely beaten AGAIN at some point after the arrest.

Gray underwent emergency spinal surgery but was pronounced dead Sunday.

Witnesses say that police had approached Freddie, prompting him to attempt to avoid them, for fear of being hurt. The officers attempted to question and arrest him, but he tried to run away, which is when the beating ensued.

One of the people in the video can be heard screaming “You broke his leg!” It turned out that the cops did much more damage than that.

Police have said that a panel has been set up to review the case which will be sent to prosecutors, but no information has been made public. The Gray family have demanded that the case be escalated to the US Department of Justice and the FBI.

“The officers who did this need to be arrested now, locked in jail and charged with murder,” said Gray’s sister, Carolina, in her first interview. “And this all needs to be investigated by separate police. How can Baltimore police look into their own?”

“The police are just going to look out for each other,” said Robert Darden, Gray’s uncle. “They need to get the federal government to investigate.” Protesters came together Sunday outside the police station in Baltimore.

“We don’t have any idea why they were chasing him,” said Carolina Gray. Darden, the uncle, said: “The police have been killing these young people. When he saw the police, he ran. And when he ran and the police caught him, they were mad he ran from them. And they beat him up.”

The mayor of Baltimore, Stephanie Rawlings-Blake, told a press conference that a criminal investigation into Gray’s death had been opened by city authorities. “I will ensure we will hold the right people accountable,” she said.

Four of the cops involved in the beating are now on administrative leave, pending the internal police inquiry. Some reports have suggested that Gray was charged with carrying a knife, but the family dispute this.

While this is sure to invigorate already intense protests against police brutality, it is yet another incident of a black man being killed by white cops, and the racial element is sure to be a huge factor once again, drawing more media attention to a problem that, in reality, transcends race and is effecting Americans of every different colour and cultural background.

Assault Rifle Wielding Thug Cop Attacks Innocent Woman For Filming

This officer REALLY REALLY didn’t want to be filmed

April 21, 2015 by Steve Watson

Video captured in a Los Angles suburb shows a woman being charged at and attacked by a cop, merely for filming him.

The footage, filmed in South Gate, California shows a woman filming a group of United States Marshals on a sidewalk using her cell phone.

“I have a right to be here, you need to stay away” the woman is heard telling the officers, presumably explaining why she was filming them. She is also heard to say “I have a right as a citizen.”

One of the officers, holding an assault rifle, then slowly walks towards the woman, before charging at her, and grabbing at the phone.

The phone hits the ground with a smashing sound, and the officer kicks it aggressively at the woman, before turning away and leaving the scene.

The person filming the video from across the street is heard gasping in shock at the thug cop’s actions, as the woman notices and asks “did you record that?”

There are no further details on the video at this time.

The footage highlights the attitude police generally have to citizens recording them. Every day there are stories of police threatening and assaulting lawful Americans who hold them accountable by exercising their Constitutional right to film in public.

These cops showed up in what is clearly a well to do neighborhood, in an unmarked vehicle, armed with assault rifles. The woman filming them was clearly not impeding their activity.

The attack on her by the officer constitutes an assault.

The South Gate Police Department can be reached at (323) 563-9500, while the US Marshals Service, LA Police Department, LA Sheriff’s Department, and the California Department of Justice can be contacted at (213) 894-2485.
