Lakisha Wilson traveled to the Preterm Abortion Clinic in Cleveland on March 21, 2014, to end her unborn child’s life.

But she ended up losing far more than her unwanted baby.

Wilson’s abortion provider did not properly monitor the 22-year-old after the procedure, and Wilson eventually stopped breathing. She was rushed to a nearby hospital, where she was put on life support and pronounced dead seven days later.

Wilson was just one of many African-American women who have been victimized by abortions that went horribly wrong. African-Americans may comprise only 13.2 percent of the total U.S. population, but black women receive 29.7 percent of all abortions in the country.

“When abortions go wrong, it is more likely that women of color are the ones who end up on slabs in the morgue,” wrote Cheryl Sullenger, a senior policy analyst at Operation Rescue. “In the past five years, four out of five abortion-related maternal deaths documented by Operation Rescue have involved Black or Hispanic women.”

Troy Newman’s organization, Operation Rescue, just released the results of a nationwide survey showing that 73 abortion clinics were closed in 2014 alone.

Sullenger, coauthor of “Abortion Free: Your Manual for Building a Pro-Life America One Community at a Time” with Newman, discussed a number of such deaths with WND.

One example: On July 20, 2012, a Chicago Planned Parenthood abortionist botched a second trimester abortion on Tonya Reaves, a 24-year-old black woman. Reaves eventually bled to death from what turned out to be a uterine perforation.

On Martin Luther King Jr. Day, Sullenger implored Americans to realize that abortion disproportionately affects the African-American community. She said African-Americans have a whopping 459 abortions per 1,000 births. By comparison, this “abortion ratio” is 132 per 1,000 for whites and 208 per 1,000 for Hispanics.

“Certainly, in order to realize Dr. King’s dream for children to be ‘judged not by the color of their skin but by the content of their character,’ they must first be allowed to be born,” Sullenger wrote.

Young black women like Wilson and Reaves may find it too convenient to get an abortion. Sullenger reported that 79 percent of all Planned Parenthood abortion clinics are located within walking distance of black or Hispanic neighborhoods.

“Poor urban women of color are particularly vulnerable to aggressive abortion marketing,” Sullenger wrote.

The author considers the large number of aborted black babies to be a form of racial discrimination. She said these abortions are standing in the way of King’s dream that all men really would be equal in America.

“If our nation is to ever truly realize Dr. King’s dream,” Sullenger wrote, “that equality must be extended to the pre-born babies, regardless of race, or we have learned nothing from the struggles of the past.”

Published by WND Books, “Abortion Free” shares the more than 50 years of experience in the fight that Sullenger and Newman have shuttering dirty, life-threatening clinics, including the story of how they peacefully shut down the clinic of Kansas’ notorious late-term abortionist George Tiller. In this practical manual you will learn how to:

– Find out who the abortion doctors are in your community and if they have a record or are even licensed in your state,

– Get clinic workers to help you acquire evidence,

– Alert the press and authorities of criminal activities,

– Expose dirty and sundry clinic conditions,

– Inform the public and the leaders of what is taking place, and

– Help the women in need.

Newman has actively worked on behalf of the pre-born for more than 20 years. Through innovative new tactics, Newman’s work is responsible for the closure of dozens of abortion clinics around the nation. He continues as an innovator of new tactics that have helped close abortion clinics and garner criminal prosecutions for abortionists from coast to coast.

Sullenger has been involved in the pro-life movement since 1984. She founded and directed the California Life Coalition in San Diego and worked with Troy Newman and Operation Rescue to help close more than a dozen abortion clinics and influence at least 40 abortionists to quit the abortion business. Her sidewalk counseling ministry has saved more than 2,500 lives. Sullenger is an accomplished writer and published editorialist who co-authored “Their Blood Cries Out!” with Newman and has also written a number of other educational publications.

Abortion’s Dreadful Toll Thwarts Dr. King’s Dream

January 19, 2015 by: Troy Newman

I have a dream that one day this nation will rise up and live out the true meaning of its creed: “We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal.” –Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.

Washington, DC – As the nation pauses to remember the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., let us also remember that abortion has taken a dreadful toll on the African American community, which continues to be disproportionately targeted for abortion.

Certainly, in order to realize Dr. King’s dream for children to be “judged by the color of their skin but by the content of their character,” they must first be allowed to be born.

Perhaps nowhere is racial discrimination more evident than inside an American abortion clinic.

While African-Americans comprise 13.2% of the total U.S. population, Black women receive a 29.7 percent of all abortions in this country. Among African-Americans, the abortion ratio (number of abortions per 1,000 births) is a staggering 459, compared to 132 among whites and 208 among Hispanics.

Poor urban women of color are particularly vulnerable to aggressive abortion marketing.

According to ProtectingBlackLife.org, 79% of all Planned Parenthood abortion clinics are located within walking distance of African-American or Hispanic neighborhoods.

When abortions go wrong, it more likely that women of color are the ones who end up on slabs in the morgue. In the past five years, four out of five abortion-related maternal deaths documented by Operation Rescue have involved Black or Hispanic women.

– February 21, 2014: Lakisha Wilson, a 22-year old Black woman received a fatal abortion at Preterm abortion clinic in Cleveland, Ohio, which targets primarily women from the African-American community for abortions. Her abortion was done by Lisa Perriera, who is white.

– February 13, 2013: Maria Santiago, a 45-year old Hispanic woman, died from a mishandled abortion at a Baltimore abortion mill located in residential condominium complex. That facility, targeted urban women of color, was later closed by the Maryland Department of Health and Hygiene for dangerous practices. That facility was owned by Steven Chase Brigham, who is white.

– July 20, 2012: Tonya Reaves, a 24-year old Black woman died as the results of a botched, incomplete abortion at an urban Chicago, Illinois, Planned Parenthood abortion facility, which is positioned to target women from the Black community for abortions. Her abortion was done by Mandy Gittler, who is also white.

– January 25, 2010: Alexandra Nunez, a 37-year old Hispanic woman, died from an incompetent abortion done Robert Hosty, a white abortionist who targeted poor Black and Hispanic neighborhoods of New York City. Hosty never bothered to attempt resuscitation measures. When paramedics arrived, she was found dead in a pool of blood on the abortion table with her legs still in the stirrups.

In the retrospective of history, we can look back on social evils such as human sacrifice, gladiatorial blood-sports, generational slavery, and the Jewish Holocaust and find relief that these evils have been soundly rejected by the vast majority of humanity. However, we continue to tolerate the abortion of pre-born babies using the most barbaric of dismemberment methods, especially among racial minorities.

This is a tragic dichotomy that requires immediate correction, and Operation Rescue is among the many pro-life groups committed to ending the evil of abortion in America, for the sake of future children of all races.

If our nation is to ever truly realize Dr. King’s dream that “this nation will rise up and live out the true meaning of its creed: ‘We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal,’” that equality must be extended to the pre-born babies, regardless of race, or we have learned nothing from the struggles of the past.

Renee Ellmers is Worse Than a Democrat

January 21st, 2015 By: Leon H. Wolf (Diary)

Rep. Renee Ellmers (R-NC)51% was swept into office in 2010 on a wave of Tea Party support and based on the fact that she had the good fortune to have a Democrat incumbent who let himself get videotaped assaulting some college kids. The video in question went nationally viral and Ellmers’ election became something of a cause celebre in conservative circles. When she narrowly pulled off the victory, people expected great things from her.

However, since her election, she has been one of the worst members of the GOP caucus. This week, though, she has really outdone herself by campaigning within the caucus against a late term abortion bill in the house. The bill in question would ban most abortions after 20 weeks, when science indicates that unborn children can feel pain.

Let us be clear about two things. First, this bill is supported by a large majority of the population including men, women, millenials, and independents. According to Q-Poll, women favor it 59-35, millenials support it 57-38 and independents support it 56-36. Even among Democrats it is basically a toss-up issue, with Democrats barely opposing it 47-46. So Ellmers has placed herself to the left of the average Democrat voter on this issue with her hysterical shrieking and her attempts to paint the passage of the bill as a doomsday scenario.

Second, there is absolutely no scenario in which you can call yourself pro-life in any way and oppose this bill. If you have an abortion bill that is favored by half of Democrats and you oppose it, then you are pro-abortion, period. And not just a little bit pro-abortion, you’re outside the mainstream pro-abortion. The public supports this bill 60%-33%. If you oppose it, you are a pro-abortion extremist. Ellmers is either lying to her constituents about being pro-life or she has become a poltroon on this issue now that the GOP has taken control of the house and she figures she can increase her district’s share of the federal feeding trough.

It is one thing for Democrats, who are in the pocket of the abortion lobby, to oppose this bill. That is what they are paid to do. But what Rep. Renee Ellmers (R-NC)51% is doing here is worse because she is trying to poison the caucus of people who might potentially vote for the bill. It would be better to have a Democrat in this seat than a cancer in the Republican caucus.

If you are a constituent of hers, call her office at 202-225-4531 and voice your frustration with her craven lies. And come 2016, we need to replace Ellmers with a good Republican, or failing that, a Democrat.

CBO: Late-Term Abortions Average One Per Hour In U.S.; Calculates ‘Cost’ of Letting Babies Live

January 21, 2015 By Terence P. Jeffrey

(CNSNews.com) - In its “cost estimate” of the “Pain Capable Unborn Child Protection Act” released yesterday, the Congressional Budget Office estimated that about 10,000 unborn babies are killed each year in the United States in abortions that take place at 20 weeks or later in pregnancy.

That works out to an average of 27.4 late-term abortion per day or 1.14 per hour.

The CBO made the estimate as it tried to calculate how much it would “cost” the federal government if Congress enacted the Pain Capable Unborn Child Protection Act, which prohibits killing unborn babies at 20 or more weeks into pregnancy–unless the baby who is going to be killed was conceived through a reported rape or incest against a minor, or if the life of the mother is at stake.

The CBO determined that estimating an exact dollar cost to the federal government for prohibiting people from killing babies late in a pregnancy is difficult to do.

“Based on data compiled by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), CBO estimates that, each year, about 10,000 abortions take place 20 weeks or more after fertilization,” said the cost estimate.

Eleven states prohibit abortion after 20 weeks, according to CBO, and another 31 states “prohibit abortions occuring at later points during a pregancy.”

CBO said it cannot know for sure how many babies would be spared death by the bill.

“The number of those abortions that would be averted and therefore result in additional births under H.R. 36 is highly uncertain,” says CBO. “That number would depend on how the women who would otherwise have such abortions responded to the restriction. If almost all of those women responded by having abortions before 20 weeks, there would be few additional births relative to current law. On the other hand, if the majority of women who would have sought abortions after 20 weeks chose instead to carry their pregnancies to term, then the number of additional births would be greater.”

In the end, CBO “assumed” that most women who would otherwise terminate the lives of their unborn children in the 20th week or later, would–if the Pain Capable Unborn Child Protection Act were enacted–terminate the lives of these children earlier in pregnancy.

“For this estimate, CBO assumes that around three-quarters of abortions that would occur 20 weeks or more after fertilization under current law would take place earlier, before the 20th week restriction is triggered, under the act,” say CBO.

Under CBO’s assumption “the remaining one-quarter” of those estimated 10,000 babies “would be taken to term”–that is, not killed by an abortionist. That means that, under CBO’s assumptions and estimates, each year 2,500 human beings would be allowed to live instead of being terminated in a late-term abortion.

Based on its conclusion that the cost of not killing babies in late-term abortions would come “primarily” through Medicaid, CBO then estimates to be the “cost” to the federal government of allowing these 2,500 babies per year to live.

“As a result, we estimate that the increase in federal costs for Medicaid would total $235 million over the 2015-2025 period,” says CBO. “However, there is a wide range of uncertainty around that central estimate. CBO estimates that the budgetary effects on other programs would be negligible.”

So the “uncertain” financial cost of allowing 2,500 unborn babies per year (or 25,000 babies over ten years) to live rather than subjecting them to a late-term abortions is $235 million. That works out to a cost of $9,400 to the federal government for each innocent life saved.

CBO says there would also be a cost to state governments.

“Since a portion of Medicaid is paid for by state governments, CBO estimates that state spending on the program would increase by about $155 million over the 2015-2025 period,” says the cost estimate.

That works out to about $6,200 for each of the 25,000 innocent lives saved.

The CBO did not estimate at all what the nation would lose if the government allowed the deliberate killing of these 25,000 babies.

On Tuesday, the White House issued a statement saying that President Obama will veto the Pain Capable Unborn Child Protection Act if it passes Congress.

Prohibiting the killing of unborn babies 20 weeks or later into pregnancy, the White House said, “would unacceptably restrict women’s health and reproductive rights and is an assault on a woman’s right to choose.”

The White House suggested that killing an unborn child late in pregnancy is part of a woman’s “right to privacy” and “right to choose” and is protected by the Supreme Court’s interpretation of the U.S. Constitution–at least for the last four decades.

“Over the past forty years, since Roe v. Wade, the Supreme Court has affirmed a woman’s constitutional righ to privacy, including the right to choose,” said the White House. “H.R. 36 is a direct challenge to the Supreme Court’s holdings on abortion.”

House Passes ‘No Taxpayer Funding For Abortion’ Act On 42nd Anniversary of Roe v. Wade

January 22, 2015 by Jennifer Gerson Uffalussy

This afternoon, on the 42nd anniversary of the Supreme Court’s Roe v. Wade ruling which determined that a woman’s choice to have an abortion is guaranteed based on her right to privacy, the U.S. House of Representatives passed H.R. 7, the No Taxpayer Funding For Abortion Act, which seeks to end the coverage of abortion services by private insurance companies.

The name of the bill does not accurately reflect its content, as current legislation already prevents taxpayer dollars from being allocated for abortion services; rather the bill seeks to restrict private insurance companies who offer coverage through the new Affordable Care Act Marketplace from presenting plans that would include coverage for abortion services. The law would make it illegal to use tax credits and other subsidies to purchase private insurance for abortion — raising taxes for small businesses and families and taking coverage away from many women. Furthermore, the bill also has almost no exceptions for women whose health is at risk, thus forcing many women to pay out-of-pocket for a potentially life-saving, and expensive, medical expense.

The bill does not allow any exceptions for abortions necessary to protect a woman’s health, even to protect against serious medical conditions.

In addition to coinciding with the anniversary of Roe v. Wade, the vote was also timed by GOP leadership to take place alongside the annual March for Life; thousands of protesters have descended on Washington to express their support for measures such as H.R. 7 as well as their belief that abortion should be illegal in this country. “[T]ragically, nearly 3,000 unborn children are still killed every day in the United States,” Carol Tobias, President of National Right to Life, said in a statement.

A vote had previously been scheduled for today on the Pain Capable Unborn Child Protection Act, but was cancelled late last night after Republicans learned they had lost the support of female Republican House members who were essential for the bill’s passage. These women representatives, led by Reps. Rene Ellmers (R-NC) [mentioned above]and Jackie Walorski (R-IN), were motivated by the long-documented unpopularity of such measures by moderate and independent female voters, an essential national voting block for Republicans.

The newly-passed No Taxpayer Funding For Abortion Act will now head to the Republican-controlled Senate for a vote. The White House issued a statement earlier today, however, noting that if the bill were to pass both bodies of Congress, President Obama will nonetheless veto it, as is well within his presidential jurisdiction.

In their statement, the Office of the President said, “The Administration strongly opposed H.R. 7. The legislation would intrude on women’s reproductive freedom and access to health care; increase the financial burden on many Americans; unnecessarily restrict the private insurance choices that consumers have today; and restrict the District of Columbia’s use of local funds, which undermines home rule. Longstanding Federal policy prohibits the use of Federal funds for abortions, except in cases of rape or incest, or when the life of the woman would be endangered. This prohibition is maintained in the Affordable Care Act and reinforced through the President’s Executive Order 13535. H.R. 7 would go well beyond those safeguards by interfering with consumers’ private health care choices. The Administration strongly opposed legislation that unnecessarily restricts women’s reproductive freedoms and consumers’ private insurance options. If the President were presented with H.R. 7, his senior advisors would recommend that he veto this bill.”

Cathy McMorris Rodgers Scrambles to Defend GOP Leadership’s Abortion Implosion

22 Jan 2015 by Dr. Susan Berry

In an exclusive interview with Rep. Cathy McMorris Rodgers (WA) at the March for Life Thursday, the House Republican leader told Breitbart News Republicans were not unified on the Pain Capable Unborn Child Protection Act.

“We had hoped — our goal was to have it on the House floor today,” McMorris Rodgers said. “We still need to work on it some more. We are committed to — to getting it done. We’re passing the No Taxpayer Funding of Abortion bill as I speak right now, and we’ll continue to work on the Pain Capable bill.”

Asked if the group of Republican women led by Rep. Renee Ellmers (NC) would be getting on board with the Pain Capable bill – which would ban late-term abortions after the fifth month of pregnancy – McMorris Rodgers said, “We’re going to have to – it’s the legislative process. We’re going to have to keep working through the language to get us to a place where we are unified in the support for this bill and moving it forward.”

As Breitbart News previously reported, GOP House leadership decided to pull the Pain Capable bill on the eve of the March for Life when Ellmers and her colleagues objected to language in the bill regarding provisions for dealing with rape. These House Republicans said the bill would hurt the Party’s chances with women and millennials.

Asked if leadership was committed to the Pain Capable bill, McMorris Rodgers said, “yes.”

McMorris Rodgers is personally committed to the pro-life position and was a speaker at the March for Life on Thursday in Washington, D.C. where hundreds of thousands of pro-lifers marched at the national mall.

On Thursday, the House passed legislation that would block abortion coverage from Obamacare health plans. As the Washington Examiner reported, the No Taxpayer Funding for Abortion Act was “identical to a bill that cleared the Republican-run House last year but died in the then-Democratic controlled Senate.”

The bill, sponsored by Rep. Chris Smith (R-NJ) would make it illegal to use Obamacare subsidies to purchase health insurance plans that cover abortion services through the health exchanges.

Democrats said the measure was an “assault on women’s health.”
