We’ve been so busy with all of our outside activities that between that and being sick in November (along with Thanksgiving and Christmas prep) that we’ve often been too busy to do much more than the basics in our homeschool this month. However, I started planning and dreaming (and shopping) for Spring semester, and it shows!!
I did purchase one thing because it was a Cyber Monday deal that I couldn’t resist. It was the Easy Homeschooling Library deal that Homeschool Freebie of the Day offered. I paid $11.
I’ve been enjoying watching the Harry Potter movies with the children, and I realized that because the children have watched the movies it would be perfect to read the books and do a unit study of the books along the way. While I’ll be creating my own unit study (at some point after Christmas), I bought two unit studies from Build Your Library on the first two books. They were also on a Cyber Monday special, and I paid $8.38 for them.
I also bought a bunch of books to get us started on our Harry Potter unit study from Amazon. These are the books I bought:

As you might can tell from my list of books, we’re going to be using the first Harry Potter book as a vehicle to study plants and herbal remedies, as recommended in the unit study I bought. I really liked that idea, which is a big part of the reason why I bought the unit studies that I bought.
When I think about it, we’re just not normal homeschoolers. Remember the four to six months we spent with Bunnicula last year and our occasional How to Train Your Dragon projects? I still haven’t written all of the posts that I would like to from that time in our homeschool. However, stay tuned for Harry Potter school. It’s going to be fun. :-D
I also bought the Newest Heirloom Audio Production release, The Dragon and The Raven. This was Firecracker’s request because he loves their audio dramas so much. This drama is going to be our first study of 2016, and I spent $36.92 with shipping on the CD.
I also noticed that The Golden Goblet is coming up as a book for us to read in our ancient Egypt study we’ve been working through this year. I decided I wanted to do a literature study with this book, so I ordered the study guide from Progeny Press. Total cost was $18.99.
I found a game called Wildcraft! An Herbal Adventure Game, a cooperative board game and realized it would go perfectly with our first installment of Harry Potter school. Because it was just under Amazon’s $35 free shipping thing, I also ordered Medicinal Plants Coloring Book (Dover Nature Coloring Book) and a set of index card dividers for me. Total cost on the game and the coloring book $34.98. I went ahead and ordered it since it’s Christmas time and I felt like it would be a good thing for our spring semester.
Rose ran out of canvases near the end of the month, so I bought her a 10 pack at Michael’s for $20.26.
That brings total spending for this month to $186.12. However, except for odds and ends for projects, I’ve bought most of what I didn’t already have to start Spring Semester. I’ll call this Spring Semester spending month one and keep a running count each month of what I spend between now and the end of May to give you a picture into how much it cost to educate all four of the children for the semester.
