The Federal Government’s proposed budget has faced immense opposition from many sectors of society, with many seeing the likely outcome as increasing the gap between the rich and poor.

The University sector isn’t immune to these cuts, with threats of deregulation and fee increases; it is the largest changes made to the tertiary sector since HECS was introduced in 1989.

These proposals forced students, staff and the general public out on to the streets in protest and Jeannie Rae, President of the National Tertiary Education Union, explains why the message they were sharing.
