Sharing sensitive information in a safe manner is an ongoing data security concern, and it is especially important when the data being sharing is by army troops.
The Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA) is a research arm of the US Department of Defense. They are working on new tech that will take advantage of networking technology that allows secure data sharing on unsecured military and commercial networks.
The new tech will allow US troops to securely exchange data on their devices.
Specifically, the program is called Secure Handhelds on Assured Resilient networks at the tactical Edge, or SHARE for short. The new tech will be compatible with laptops, tactical radios, and handheld devices.
The project involves creating software that has the capacity of rapidly configuring security across a network, and was designed to work in challenging environments.
According to Zeus Kerravala, ZK Research’s analyst, manual security processes take too much time to implement, and doing so is unsuitable for the current era. The wrongdoers use automated systems to break security, and in order to combat them, the security needs to match that speed.
US military soldiers often need to share data as quickly as possible, and often in places where it is not practical to deploy data security engineers.
Kerravala also said that machine learning will likely be a part of the new technology. Finally, he concluded that smart systems can write software and learn faster than people.
