(MENAFN – QNA) The Ministry of Environment awarded Friends of the Environment Centre (FEC) and Sasol Qatar for developing Qatar e-Nature application for smartphones that spreads awareness and information on the country’s flora and fauna.

HE the Minister of Environment Ahmed bin Amer Al Humaidi presented the award.

Sasol Qatar General Manager of Public Affairs Jack Saba received the award on behalf of the energy company at a seminar held here under the patronage of the Minister of Environment.

The seminar mulled topics on maintaining plant biodiversity, setting environmental priorities for joint action as per Qatar National Vision 2030 and the National Development Strategy.

Saba presented Sasol’s environmnetal promotion and awareness work through the use of Qatar e-Nature application by school students in Qatar.

FEC Chairman Dr. Saif Al Hajari said, “It is an honour to receive this award under the patronage of HE the Minister of Environment. This year, thanks to the support of the Supreme Education Council we reached all schools in Qatar. We had more than 15,000 participants in the annual Qatar e-Nature school contest. We hope we can continue to inspire youth to learn more about nature in this beautiful country.

“Sasol Qatar President Marjo Louw said, “We are proud of the achievements and success of Qatar e-Nature. This initiative has taken Qatar’s environment awareness to new heights in a fun and entertaining way. We are confident Qatar e-Nature app will become more useful through the addition of marine life later this year.”

This is Qatar e-Nature’s third award this year. Earlier it won two regional awards – ‘Best Smart Mobile Application Award’ in the Arab region as part of the Smart Government Excellence Awards, presented by Kuwait’s Minister of State for Cabinet Affairs and Chairman of the Central Agency for Information Technology Sheikh Mohammed Abdullah Al Mubarak Al Sabah.

UAE Vice President, Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al-Maktoum presented the second award titled ‘Best Mobile Government Service Award’ in the environment category in the Arab region.

Launched in December 2013, the Qatar e-Nature application highlights Qatar’s plant, bird, insect, mammal and reptile life. Sasol created the app as part of its Corporate Social Responsibility programme in partnership with FEC.
