This week we shall look at “Basic Time Management”.

Time Management is essential to a proper work-life balance. If you find yourself constant spending more time doing work after work, you might just be suffering from a time management problem. Spending too much time in work mode causes stress and that’s bad for your health.  More importantly, because we need our careers to support our lives, time management at work is important to being as efficient as possible at work.

One of the greatest dangers of poor time management is missing deadlines at work. Missed deadlines are bad for the organization as a whole. It means that they cannot keep their word to stakeholders such a suppliers and clients. As an employee in an organisation responsible for a missed deadline which makes the company look bad, the risk of being fired is at its highest. Understanding the basics of time management is the first step to ensure this never happens to you.

Missed deadlines are not only problem that poor time management can cause. Even if you’re able to meet your deadlines despite poorly managed work, you will also the sacrificing the quality of your work in the process. Because you might be rushing to meet a deadline, at that point you’ll be sacrificing the quality and thoroughness needed to actually do great work. This takes points away from you as far as effectiveness is concerned and that’s the type of branding you want to avoid.

Understanding how to consistently manage your time to help you always meet deadlines and do quality work is the skill that sets you apart. Just like a business wants to keep to its high standards of service, so do you. If you’re only doing quality work sometimes and in a random fashion, depending on when you can find the time to actually put in the work to be thorough then it’s not likely that you will get ahead at work.
