Famed musician/singer and musical prodigy Charles “Chuckie” Bush, II, died suddenly in Las Vegas at the age of 59. Bush was a founding member of the beloved Indianapolis-based 1970’s R&B/Soul band, “Manchild,” that birthed and launched entertainment legend Kenneth “Babyface” Edmonds and others onto the music scene. Bush was found in his home by police who were performing a welfare check on him on Monday, after members of the R&B/Funk band “Cameo” reported that he didn’t show up to do a regularly scheduled performance. According to his family members, Bush died in his sleep. The talented keyboardist and Indianapolis native was the son of local music legend parents–the late-Chuck Bush, a popular saxophonist who often played on Indiana Avenue during its heyday and his wife, the late-jazz and gospel vocalist Aretta LaMarre “Mother Love” Bush.

“Manchild” recorded two popular studio albums, “Power and Love” and “Feel the Phuff.” Bush wrote the breakthrough hit that appeared on the “Power and Love” album entitled “Especially for You,” which remains a fan favorite to this day.

At the time of his death, Bush, was performing in-residency with “Cameo” playing keyboards for the group at Westgate Las Vegas Casino & Resort.

Bush’s memorial arrangements are pending.

Take a walk back down memory lane (below) and listen to a song that WTLC-FM wore the grooves off of by Kenneth “Babyface” Edmonds, Daryl Simmons, Reggie Griffin, Anthony Johnson, Kevin “Flash” Ferrell, Robert Parson and Chuckie Bush–all the members of ‘Naptown’s’ own…”Manchild.”
