The Best Face Sunscreens for Summer 2020

How’s your quarantine summer going so far? With the virus still in full swing it doesn’t look like my husband and I will be heading to the beach anytime soon. That doesn’t mean though I’m forgoing wearing sunscreen though.

I have fair skin that typically burns first and then tans later, which is why I always carry sunscreen with me.

While I’ve tried several sunscreens over the last couple of years (drugstore and high-end), I’ve narrowed it down to the four best sunscreens, in my opinion, that I personally love and use on a regular basis.

Last week we drove to Deep Creek Lake where my in-laws live. It was nice mini getaway from our apartment (it seems to be getting smaller with time). To be able to walk outdoors, go on a boat ride and just enjoy the beautiful weather was truly the vacation we needed.

Supergoop Unseen Sunscreen SPF 40 ($34)

This is my go-to right now as I use it before I apply my Covergirl Skin Milk Foundation. It doubles as a primer because it fills my pores and grips my makeup so well. It’s an invisible, scentless sunscreen so no need to worry about white cast or greasy texture. This has a natural finish so it won’t look dewy nor matte. This is great for full-face makeup days.

Glossier Invisible Shield SPF 35 ($25)

It’s a lightweight water-gel formula that feels and looks like a serum and doesn’t leave any white cast. It does have a bit of a citrus scent, which I personally like. I’ve seen mixed reviews on whether this is a good option for acne prone skin; however, this has never caused breakouts for me. I can only speak to my experience though. Compared to Supergoop Unseen Sunscreen, I don’t find this to be as good of a makeup gripping primer so I keep this handy for my lighter makeup days.

Babo Botanicals Daily Sheer Facial Sunscreen SPF 40 ($20.99)

This is the only non-toxic, physical sunscreen I’ve purchased and like. This has rose hip oil (improves the appearance of sun damage), green tea to prevent aging and shea butter (which also has a low level of UV protection). I’ll wear this on my no makeup days as it also helps protect the scar I have under my nose from my car crash.

Alchimie Forever Protective Day Cream SPF23 ($69)

This is the only daily protective moisturizer I’ve tried that effectively doubles as sunscreen for the face. It’s a bit pricey compared to the others but if you have aging concerns, very dry or sensitive skin, this will be worth every penny. It provides broad-spectrum UV protection as it seamlessly melts onto skin and it has a very mild, floral scent. I’ll also apply this on my hands to keep them looking nice and healthy.
