Police officers have been left with broken arms and ribs after a ‘kill the bill’ protest ends in violence.

The demonstration against the plans to give police more powers to deal with peaceful protects has turned to violence and shameful scenes on the streets of Bristol.

Hundreds of people had gathered at the College Green in Bristol before they headed to a police station near to New Bridewell Street and started spraying graffiti on marked police vehicles.

Police vehicle windows were smashed and set on fire and windows to the police station were also smashed.

It is believed that a number of police officers were injured with some suffering suspected broken arms and ribs within the incident.

Protesters were observed facing up to riot police who were deployed as the march turned violent as night fell.
