This is a remote independent contractor position.
At the Poetry Foundation, we exist to discover and celebrate the best poetry and to place it before the largest possible audience. The Poetry Foundation uses emerging technology to reach and engage a broad audience for poetry. Through its award-winning website, mobile applications, and social media, the Foundation seeks to create new readers of poetry, serve existing poetry fans, and support Foundation initiatives and programs.
We are seeking several independent contractors to write short (300-350 word) reviews of new poetry books for the Harriet Books component of the Poetry Foundation website. Contractors will draw upon their poetry expertise to provide thoughtful, informative reviews of new and forthcoming collections, focusing in particular on books from small and independent press, chapbooks and poetry in translation. Interested parties who meet the Illinois definition of Independent Contractor status from in or outside the US are welcome to respond to this posting citing relevant current or past experience.

Scope
Working independently, contractors will review three to five books each month. Books for review will be selected by reviewers in consultation with Harriet editor. Reviewers will  periodically attend editorial meetings to discuss selections (via video chat or phone).
Contract Start Date: September 1, 2022
Consideration Period: July 15 - July 27, 2022

Rate of Pay: We offer competitive pay at $300 per review + $35/hr for meetings.

Anticipated Commitments:

Reviewers should anticipate committing up to 2 hours a month for meetings, in addition to the time it takes to select, read, and review books, as well as make any revisions.

This position requires an internet connection and experience writing book reviews.
