We’ve just added 50,000 incredible audiobooks to Playster as part of a deal with publishers Findaway. In keeping with the spirit of All Hallow’s Eve we’ve picked out some of the best spooky audiobooks to share with you. A word of advice: don’t listen to these before you sleep…

Anne Rice – The Complete Vampire Chronicles  (+41 additional audiobooks!)

“You do have a story inside you; it lies articulate and waiting to be written — behind your silence and your suffering.”

The Vampire Chronicles begins with Louis de Pont du Lac telling a young, nameless reporter  his dark secret: he’s a vampire from the 18th century. Like most vampires, Louis is haunted by a tragic past: when his “maker”, Lestat de Lioncourt, bestowed the “dark gift” of vampirism to  5-year-old plague victim Claudia, the stage was set for an irreversible catastrophe. The Vampire Chronicles follows Lestat through history as he searches for others like him, experiencing death, loss, grief and suffering along the way.

Rice’s novels are by no means cheerful, but they’re immensely popular. Titles in the series include Interview With the Vampire which many know from the feature film starring Brad Pitt, Tom Cruise and a young Kirsten Dunst as Claudia, The Queen of the Damned, and The Vampire Lestat. You can listen to all 11 published volumes of The Vampire Chronicles now on Playster, along with many of Rice’s other novels: 52 audiobooks in total!

Jeff Lindsay – Darkly Dreaming Dexter: The Series

“Really now: if you can’t get me my newspaper on time, how can you expect me to refrain from killing people?”

Dexter Morgan is a psychopath with a clear mission – kill the bad people. A blood spatter pattern analyst with a propensity for killing, Dexter’s police officer father taught him how to kill without being caught. As Dexter ruthlessly pursues serial killers and child molesters who escaped prosecution to sate his own twisted appetite for murder, he forces us to question the true definition of justice. Follow the transformation of Dexter over eight audiobooks within the series, all available now on Playster. The blood spatter analyst becomes a husband and father and back to a serial killer.

Rest assured,  fans of TV-Dexter: Jeff Lindsay’s books are not identical to the television series. With major plot differences and Lindsay’s devilishly witty, satirical tone, you can relive the excitement, blood and plot twists all over again. And yes, we carry all of them: Darkly Dreaming Dexter, Dearly Devoted Dexter, Dexter in the Dark, Dexter by Design, Dexter Is Delicious , Double Dexter, Dexter’s Final Cut to Dexter is Dead. Delightful!

Madeleine Roux – The Asylum Trilogy

“Insanity is relative. It depends on who has who locked in what cage.”

Madeleine Roux’s Asylum Trilogy begins with Dan, Abby, and Jordan who are spending their summer chilling in the not-so-chill Brookline Asylum in New Hampshire. Remodeled into a college summer dorm, the asylum is host to many dark secrets that, in true horror fashion, won’t stay buried for long. The series follows these three friends as they try to figure out what forces drew them to the Brookline Asylum, and the strange happenings they experience along the way.

Roux’s trilogy is a New York Times best-selling series, and the physical books come complete with archival photographs of creepy locations like real-life asylums and abandoned carnivals. Don’t worry though, the audiobook offers a unique experience of its own. Narrated by Michael Goldstrom, we recommend listening to it while walking around at night for maximum scares. Asylum, Sanctum and Catacomb are all available as audiobooks on Playster right now.
