Day 1 (Thursday)

Arrive Early

The Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) is located a fair distance away from the city centre so it’s best to take an early flight so you maximise your first day of travel. We have tips on how to pack.

Select Your Mode of Transportation

You can choose from three mode of transportation to get you to the city. The fasters way is by the KLIA Express. The train ride takes 28 minutes and you will arrive at the KL Sentral Station. Travellers on a tight budget can opt for the airport coach. The bus ride to the same station will take about an hour. If you want to go directly to your hotel, grab a taxi instead.

Buy Sim Card

When you are at the train station, make sure you get a prepaid sim card. If you are heading directly to the hotel, you can purchase it on your way out.

Check-In at the Hotel

The check-in time for most hotels in Malaysia is 2:00pm. You can leave your bags at the reception if you arrive early and your room isn’t ready yet. We suggest you stay somewhere close to a train station for traveling convenience. Check our hotel recommendations here.

Head to Central Market

This tourist attraction is located opposite the Pasar Seni LRT station. It’s a great place to purchase souvenirs, woodwork and local handicrafts. There is a food court here where you can enjoy an affordable lunch that is delicious.

Walk Over to Petaling Street

After you are done at Central Market, walk over to the famous Petaling Street. Also known as Chinatown, this is where you can find affordable goods such as clothing, accessories and handbags. Be sure to stop by at the Air Mata Kuching stall to try a cold refreshing drink made of winter melon, dried longan and monk fruit.

Visit Petronas Twin Towers

Hop back onto the LRT and head over to KLCC. It will take you directly to the Petronas Twin Towers that soars 88 storeys high. Here you can view the majestic city of Kuala Lumpur from the highest structure in the country.

After watching the sun go down from the Skybridge, go back down to the shopping mall to grab some dinner and enjoy some shopping.

Day 2 (Friday)

Spend the Day at the Lake Gardens

Also known as the Perdana Botanical Gardens, this is a great place to spend the day and enjoy nature.

Besides exploring the many gardens in the park, you can also take a boat ride or take the shuttle tram to heritage sites within the Tun Abdul Razak Heritage Park.

This includes the Bird Park, National Mosque, Museum Negara and Islamic Art Museum.

Make Your Way to Bukit Bintang

This area is the local version of the New York Times Square. Shopaholics will love it here as you can find everything from the most upscale brands to affordable clothing.

This is also the direction to head if you’re looking for electronic goods at cheap prices.

Have Dinner at Jalan Alor

If you love food, you will rejoice at the sight of all the hawker stalls and restaurants on Jalan Alor. This is where you will find some of the best local food from seafood to satay and noodles to desserts. We have a list of foods to eat in Kuala Lumpur.

Freshen Up

Head back to the hotel and freshen up. Perhaps put on something a little more fancy before heading out for some drinks and live music!

Enjoy Live Music at Changkat

Changkat is perhaps one of the most vibrant and happening areas in Kuala Lumpur with plenty of entertainment options. Tons of events happen in this area including live music performances and open mic nights. Some great places to check out include No Black Tie, Pisco Bar and Calavera.

Day 3 (Saturday)

Take a Trip to Cameron Highlands

Check out from your hotel and head to KL Sentral. From there you can get a coach to Cameron Highlands. It will take about 3.5 hours to get there. The bus will stop at the Tanah Rata bus terminal, which is connect to all of your major attractions. The earliest bus leaves at 8:30am and the bus fare is MYR35.

Check in at Hotel

There are many hotels located in Tanah Rata from your higher end ones to your budget accommodation. Take note that check in time is usually at 2:00pm.

You can ask the hotel staff to keep your bags at the reception area if your room is not ready by the time you arrive.

Have Lunch at Restoran Ferm Nonya

This restaurant is located on the row as Maybank in Tanah Rata. It is a popular joint serving delicious local dishes such as chicken rendang (spicy stew) and kangkong belancan (stir fried water spinach with shrimp paste).

Visit a Tea Plantation

A visit to the Cameron Bahrat Plantation is a must when you’re in Cameron Highlands. The tea garden has some of the most spectacular views in the Highlands. You can also tour the factory, and enjoy tea and scones at the cafe.

Pick Strawberries

One of the most popular places to pick strawberries is at the Big Red Strawberry Farm. You can walk through the vegetable, flower and strawberry gardens while enjoying the cool breeze and nice view. After picking strawberries, you can treat yourself to their signature strawberry sundae at the cafe.

Explore the Brinchang Night Market

Held every Saturday night, this market is where you can find bargain goods including souvenirs, tea and fresh fruits. This is where you can enjoy delicious street food for dinner like satay and nasi lemak (Malaysia’s national dish).

Day 4 (Sunday)

Travel Back to the City

Make your way back to the Tanah Rata bus terminal and catch the first bus to KL at 8:30am. It departs from the Tanah Rata bus terminal.

Lunch and Final Shopping at Nu Sentral

Stop by Nu Sentral (a shopping mall connected to KL Sentral) to grab some lunch and also do your final shopping. There are many restaurants to choose from and there is also a food court. Treat yourself to Sangkaya coconut ice cream before you head off!

Bye Bye!

Walk back to KL Sentral and take the KLIA Express or coach to the airport. Make sure you know which terminal you will be departing from. Have a safe flight to your next destination!
