Orlando Science Schools will be offering classes called academic/athletic electives for grades 6-12 in 2016-17 academic year. Academic electives are designed to encourage and help our Gifted/Advanced and students, who are seeking challenge to participate in academic competitions.
We will have classes towards Math, Science, Technology, Engineering and Social Studies. We strongly encourage our students to challenge themselves beyond the expected grade level curriculum, and we believe these classes will provide a support for this goal.
Students will be assigned to ONLY one of these classes in elective period. Enrolling in these classes neither requires, nor guarantees competing in the actual tournaments if the elective has a related competition.
Students, who do not make their selection, will be assigned from one of the academic electives.
Please note that these electives are different than Orlando Science Biomedical Sciences (OSBP), Engineering Program (OSEP), Orlando Science Legal and Business Studies Program, and Orlando Science AP Academy. You may still take the electives at the same time even if you are accepted in one of these High School Programs.
Orlando Science will always continue to provide with appropriate courses in the core areas of Math, Language Arts, Science and Social Studies, as well as Electives like World Languages, Computer Science, Physical Education and Music. These classes will be offered based on student progression plan, graduation requirements, student preferences and course availability. Please be aware that and the students who need help in reading and math based upon the statewide assessment results may be required to take support classes instead of these courses.
The deadline for academic/athletic electives is Monday, July 4th.
We kindly ask you to choose top 3 choices for these classes. We will do our best to provide every student with his/her first choice.
Thank you.
