Caffebene sounds like an Italian cafe, but is actually a Korean cafe that (according to their website), “… serves coffee made from the world’s best seasonally harvested fresh coffee beans to ensure you enjoy a truly exceptional cup of coffee.” Caffebene Singapore also serves waffles, ice-cream, smoothies and of course the Korean dessert bingsu. It is on the ground floor of Vivo City. One end of its bright and breezy interior faces Sentosa.

Caffebene cafe is a self-service place. Order, pay and collect the order later. Here are a couple of pictures of their menu board. In case you can’t make out the words, the picture of the food display will give you an idea of the kind of food served there.

The bingsu on display looked too good to resist. They come in two sizes. The large one is huge and too scary for us. The green tea flavour was the classic one to have but we decided to try the coffee bingsu ($14.90) instead. We also ordered a choco nuts waffle ($9.90) and some coffee ($5.80 for cappuccino and $4.60 for black). There was an American Express card 20% discount promotion.

Even though we only ordered the small coffee bingsu, it was still enormous. It looked very attractive. The ice-cream and flavouring were all good. There was however one thing that was disappointing – the shaved ice. The coarse ice shaving was similar to those used in ice kachang, not the smooth snowy type. That detracted from the enjoyment of this bingsu.

The choco nut waffle was better – many types of nuts and chocolate bits on a small piece of waffle. Less was indeed more that day at Caffebene. The small waffle was a good snack to eat with the coffee. We cannot tell if they use the “world’s best seasonally harvested fresh coffee beans “, but we thought that the coffee was very good. They were also served in generous mug-sized portions. Overall, Caffebene Singapore was a pleasant place with good coffee. We liked the waffles but not the bingsu, although the latter was certainly an Instagram-worthy item.
