== Userboxes ==

I was updating my Userpage and found a page in the wiki with userboxes and I used some, but I don't know how to make the userboxes where the code has a l in it is it a lowercase L or something I don't know of? Help please.--zoomer364 16:22, May 10, 2014 (EDT)

:Hi Zoomer - that is the [[Wikipedia:Vertical bar|vertical bar character]], also called a pipe. You should be able to find it about the enter key on most keyboards. <b>~<i>[[User:SuperHamster|<font color="#07517C">Super</font>]]</i>[[User:SuperHamster|<font color="#6FA23B">Hamster</font>]]</b> <small>[[User talk:SuperHamster|Talk]]</small> 16:35, May 10, 2014 (EDT)

::Thanks, now I would like a code for a gardener userbox please.--zoomer364 19:02, May 10, 2014 (EDT)

== Game Boy ==

I'm wondering why the [[Game Boy]] page exists! I propose we delete it. It has absolutely nothing to do with the Animal Crossing series, neither the [[Game Boy Advance]]! [That's a different discussion.....] Please comment your opinions.

[[User:Flashpoint|Flash]][[User_talk:Flashpoint|point]]

:Yeah i don't think we need it. I also think we don't need the SNES page either. As for the GBA, Animal Island is on it so it is AC related. Also, please remember to sign your [[Talk:Game Boy|comments]]. -- [[User:Pokebub|Pokebub]] ([[User talk:Pokebub|talk]]) 03:32, June 25, 2014 (EDT)

::I propose that we create a soft redirect template so that we can simply link the Game Boy and SNES pages to Wikipedia, Nintendo Wiki, etc. <big>[[User:Red Snapper|<span style="font-family:Comic Sans MS;color:darkred">Red</span>]] [[User talk:Red Snapper|<span style="font-family:Comic Sans MS;color:red">Snapper</span>]]</big> 11:56, June 25, 2014 (EDT)

:::Sounds good to me, though instead of a soft redirect, I'd link directly to NWiki / Wikipedia. Directing to NWiki is the priority, but if an article is not available there, then we can do Wikipedia. <b>~<i>[[User:SuperHamster|<font color="#07517C">Super</font>]]</i>[[User:SuperHamster|<font color="#6FA23B">Hamster</font>]]</b> <small>[[User talk:SuperHamster|Talk]]</small> 16:07, June 25, 2014 (EDT)

This all sounds great, but I don't know how to make a page a redirect...... Could one of you guys do it? Thanks.

:The content of a redirect page is just this. {{User:Mario/Sig}} 22:19, June 25, 2014 (EDT)

Thanks. I just tried doing it but it wouldn't work. Can you try it? I tried typing it in but it wouldn't work. Don't use Nintendo Wiki's page, it's pretty low quality...... Use MarioWiki's , it's really good. Thanks.

[[User:Flashpoint|Flashpoint]] ([[User talk:Flashpoint|talk]]) 22:33, June 25, 2014 (EDT)

:I redirected it to Wikipedia since it's a better source for general information than MarioWiki (which contains information usually relevant only to the you-know-what series). {{User:Mario/Sig}} 22:44, June 25, 2014 (EDT)

== No info Template ==

I changed the Noinfo template to the most recent appearance of [[Blanca]]. I hope that was ok......

:It's not really a matter of personal preferences though. If it's the latest artwork, we use it, generally. {{User:Mario/Sig}} 15:29, May 9, 2015 (EDT)

==Resource page==

I'm interested in creating a page listing links to resources that editors can use to find information on all sorts of AC subjects. What is the best place/way to do this? Should I just update the [[External Animal Crossing websites]] page? --[[User:Sunmarsh|sunmarsh]] ([[User talk:Sunmarsh|talk]]) 17:37, August 3, 2014 (EDT)

:Yeah, that would make the most sense in my opinion. --[[User:XXSuperXXNintendoXx|XXSuperXXNintendoXx]] ([[User talk:XXSuperXXNintendoXx|talk]]) 17:44, August 3, 2014 (EDT)

::Sounds good to me! Thanks [[User:sunmarsh|sunmarsh]]. ==Item capitalization policy==

A few weeks ago we rebooted [[Nookipedia:Project_Furniture|Project Furniture]] and there was some discussion on [http://bulletinboardforums.com/threads/project-furniture-reboot.895/ the forums] about standardizing item names across all pages. We did reach a consensus, however I still sense there may be some confusion regarding the chosen capitalization scheme. Additionally, there were just three of us who provided input and I wanted to reopen the discussion one last time to all parties before posting the policy on the Project Furniture page and suggesting changes to [[Nookipedia:Policy#10:_Capitalizing|Nookipedia:Policy]]. The following is a summary of our decisions and a few concerns that we need to keep in mind:

'''Proposed capitalization rules:'''

:The first letter of each word in an item's name is capitalized. e.g., Blue Chair, Hi-Fi Stereo, Large Bass

:The terms 'series', 'theme', 'set' and 'category' are not capitalized. e.g., Blue series, Construction theme, Totem Pole set, Instruments category

The decision to capitalize item names is pretty arbitrary, one of the main benefits of the proposed rules is that this style matches what already appears on most of Nookipedia's pages.

'''Other considerations:'''

:The Animal Crossing games do not use any capitalization; all items are lowercase and all series, theme, set and category names are lowercase. Because of this, we get periodical edits on any page with lots of item names, where a (usually unregistered) user will make every name on the page lowercase. One advantage of choosing the all-lowercase style would be to mimic the games and (hopefully) reduce 'vandalism' by well-intentioned users. On the flip-side, we would have to edit many of the pages on Nookipedia which already use the mostly-capitalized style.

If you have any questions, comments, suggestions or concerns (whether you've voiced your opinion before or not) please post them below. If there are no objections to the proposed capitalization rules we will move forward them within the next few days.

--[[User:Sunmarsh|sunmarsh]] ([[User talk:Sunmarsh|talk]])

:The proposed capitalization rules look fine to me. I think going through and making everything lower-case would be a lot more effort than it's worth, especially considering that the wiki likes to capitalize the first letter of each page by itself anyway. --[[User:Jake|<span style="color:#008000;font-weight:bold;">Ja</span>]][[User_talk:Jake|<span style="color:#E58900;font-weight:bold;">ke</span>]] 15:28, August 8, 2014 (EDT)

::Personally I am very passionate for everything being lowercase. <font color="#181818">~~</font>'''[[User:SuperAlpaca|<font color="#6b8e23">SuperAlpaca</font>]]''' <small>([[User talk:SuperAlpaca|<font color="#4a7d91">talk</font>]])</small> 21:54, August 8, 2014 (EDT)

:::I agree with Jake. In my opinion, making everything lower-case would take a lot more effort than it's worth and wouldn't be aesthetically pleasing. That's my two cents on the matter, but I'll leave it up to finding a fair and justifiable compromise. --[[User:XXSuperXXNintendoXx|XXSuperXXNintendoXx]] ([[User talk:XXSuperXXNintendoXx|talk]]) 22:13, August 8, 2014 (EDT)

::::I'm not sure how we can compromise on this, other than capitalizing only the first word of a multiple-word item name. Even then we'd have our hands full making changes. The only thing I can think of is to use the poll on the homepage to get everyone's feedback on this. We just have to commit to making whatever changes are recommended by the popular vote (otherwise, why bother putting up a poll). --[[User:Sunmarsh|sunmarsh]] ([[User talk:Sunmarsh|talk]]) 15:01, August 9, 2014 (EDT)

:::::I personally don't have a strong preference either way, but I do like the poll idea. Wouldn't hurt to get reader input instead of the views of a few editors. I'd be willing to abide by whatever the poll outcome is. <b>~<i>[[User:SuperHamster|<font color="#07517C">Super</font>]]</i>[[User:SuperHamster|<font color="#6FA23B">Hamster</font>]]</b> <small>[[User talk:SuperHamster|Talk]]</small> 16:39, August 9, 2014 (EDT)

'''The poll is live, for anyone interested.''' I say we wait at least a week for feedback? The previous poll had over 1k votes but it was up for a year or more. --[[User:Sunmarsh|sunmarsh]] ([[User talk:Sunmarsh|talk]]) 21:31, August 13, 2014 (EDT)

:Sounds good to me - could even close earlier, seeing that the first option has strong support (if the current trend continues). <b>~<i>[[User:SuperHamster|<font color="#07517C">Super</font>]]</i>[[User:SuperHamster|<font color="#6FA23B">Hamster</font>]]</b> <small>[[User talk:SuperHamster|Talk]]</small> 14:27, August 14, 2014 (EDT)

::It seems that the first option continues to increase in majority vote percentage, so I think it's safe to say it is the clear winner here. If a staff member who is capable of doing so would like to make a change to the capitalization section of [[Nookipedia:Policy#10:_Capitalizing|Nookipedia:Policy]], that would be great. Once this is done I can note the changes on the Project Furniture page. Also, it may be beneficial to take a screenshot of the poll results as a record/reasoning for the decision prior to closing it. --[[User:Sunmarsh|sunmarsh]] ([[User talk:Sunmarsh|talk]]) 18:37, August 18, 2014 (EDT)

:::Done! Updated the policy, added a screenshot, and created a new poll for the main page. Thanks, <b>~<i>[[User:SuperHamster|<font color="#07517C">Super</font>]]</i>[[User:SuperHamster|<font color="#6FA23B">Hamster</font>]]</b> <small>[[User talk:SuperHamster|Talk]]</small> 18:53, August 18, 2014 (EDT)

In the Animal crossing games, not all the furniture names are lower-case. Proper nouns such as Gracie or Pave are capitalized in-game.

==Official name and abbreviation for Japanese-only AC titles==

The wiki does not make consistent references to the Japanese titles. Their article names are: Dōbutsu no Mori, Dōbutsu no Mori+ and Dōbutsu no Mori e+. However, I have seen references of "Animal Forest" on various pages, and when these titles are abbreviated we use the abbreviations AF, AF+ and AF e+. This is problematic/confusing. We even have templates <nowiki>{{DnM}}, {{DnM+}} and {{DnMe+}}</nowiki> that utilize the Animal Forest abbreviations, but produce the Japanese romanizations {{DnM}}, {{DnM+}} and {{DnMe+}}. We need to come to an agreement on how to reference and abbreviate these titles. My vote is to use the romanizations (Dōbutsu no Mori etc.) as those are the article names. My vote for abbreviations: DnM, DnM+, DnMe+ --[[User:Sunmarsh|sunmarsh]] ([[User talk:Sunmarsh|talk]]) 17:54, September 5, 2014 (EDT)

:We should use the romanizations instead, so I agree. {{User:Mario/Sig}} 23:27, September 6, 2014 (EDT) I agree with super mario! I AM YOUR BIGGEST FAN!!--[[User:567koala|Marcus]] ([[User talk:567koala|talk]]) 10:09, October 1, 2014 (EDT)

==Cooperation on community projects==

In order to maximize our impact and more efficiently complete large tasks on the wiki, I thought it would be to everyone's benefit to come together and focus our energy on one project. In order to do this, we need to have detailed and continuous discussions about different aspects of the project in question. My initial thinking was to organize some sort of chat thread or forum to keep in touch with all interested editors, but after some thought, I've decided that the best place for these conversations to happen is right here on Nookipedia. It's important that the decisions we make be visible to the community. Additionally, this level of transparency makes it easier for outside users to follow our progress and discover our projects, allowing interested editors to join us more easily. An offsite chat thread or thread in a subforum is almost invisible- only known to those who already know of its existence.

'''To that end, I'd like to open up this page to discussion about what sorts of projects and ideas you want to focus on as a community.''' I will be reaching out to the recently active members of the wiki, but anyone reading this who has an interest in working towards a common goal is more than welcome to join us. If you're interested in helping out, please sign your name below along with a short list or description of a project (or projects) you'd like to focus on.

'''Interested parties:'''

* [[File:Sunmarshsignature.png|link=User:Sunmarsh]] '''<small><span style="font-variant:small-caps">([[User_talk:Sunmarsh|<span style="color:#7B7B7B">talk</span>]])</span></small>''' - furniture pages, villager pages, e-cards, merchandise, main game pages (ACGC, ACCF etc.), events, guide pages, furniture customization, game music

* {{User:Mario/Sig}} (game music, real-life information on bugs and fish, clothing, ''maybe'' letter formats)

My suggestion is to focus on furniture pages simply because it's an ongoing project that we've already committed ourselves to, however I'm open to other suggestions. Once we have decided on a project we will continue the discussion on that project's talk page. If anyone has any questions, comments or concerns about this collaboration project feel free to post them below as well! :Hey, maybe we should add more people to [[Nookipedia: Project Furniture]]! I think more people could help with it.--[[User:567koala|Marcus]] ([[User talk:567koala|talk]]) 17:06, October 8, 2014 (EDT)

Hey, hey, I hope I'm not late on any input. Either way, I'm focusing all my effort on furniture pages. Furniture, in my opinion, is probably the best part of Animal Crossing, but I do enjoy catching the variety of bugs and fish. The neighbor part is probably one of the more boring things here, no offense. I kind of want to do some reenacting one more project, Project Fashion, but I don't want to attempt too many things at once. {{User:Mario/Sig}} 16:57, October 10, 2014 (EDT)

==Seeking Advice==

I hope to become a helpful user, who makes edits and slightly helps the wiki. But to do so, I need someone to tell me how to make my own templates, and all that other stuff. [[User:Kit|Kit]] ([[User talk:Kit|talk]])

:Hello Kit, if you've never edited a wiki before my recommendation would be to check out the [[Help:Getting_Started|Getting Started]] page, paying specific attention to the Formatting Links section, as you'll be using links in every article you write or edit. I would also take a look at [[Help:Images]] and the tips at the top of [[Special:Upload]]. While learning how templates work is important, you won't have to create many new templates from scratch (unless you want to). We have many existing templates (type "template:" in the search bar to find them) and you can always take elements from templates you like and combine them to suit your needs. Other than that, I think the best way to learn is to start editing articles and paying close attention to the wikitext and what the different elements are producing on screen. I hope that helped and if you have any further questions, feel free to ask! [[File:Sunmarshsignature.png|link=User:Sunmarsh]] '''<small><span style="font-variant:small-caps">([[User_talk:Sunmarsh|<span style="color:#7B7B7B">talk</span>]])</span></small>''' 13:19, October 12, 2014 (EDT)

:I also want to add, you might want to specify what kinds of template you're interested in creating because there is quite a variety of templates so we can specify ''our'' advice too. Nevertheless, ask questions, play around, experiment, they're all encouraged here. {{User:Mario/Sig}} 17:45, October 12, 2014 (EDT)

Ok, thanks guys! [[User:Kit|Kit]] ([[User talk:Kit|talk]]) 11:11, October 17, 2014 (EDT)

==Browser add-on suggestion==

I thought I would make a note here about a browser extension that I've found helpful for editing here on the wiki. The add-on is called [https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/find-and-replace-for-firefox/ Find and Replace] for Firefox. There may be a [https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/search-and-replace/bldchfkhmnkoimaciljpilanilmbnofo?hl=en-GB similar extension] available for Chrome users. The extension allows you to find and replace text in input fields (e.g. article wikitext), making it easier to make large amounts of repetitive changes. I find this is particularly helpful when converting tables over to the new ItemList template. If you guys have any recommendations about other helpful add-ons I've love to hear about them. [[File:Sunmarshsignature.png|link=User:Sunmarsh]] '''<small><span style="font-variant:small-caps">([[User_talk:Sunmarsh|<span style="color:#7B7B7B">talk</span>]])</span></small>''' 16:39, October 18, 2014 (EDT)

:Very nice, thanks :) I believe I've mentioned this elsewhere, but [http://getlazarus.com/download Lazarus] is a lifesaver. It automatically saves text field inputs, which can save you for when you accidentally quit out of your editing window or your browser crashes. It's saved my back more than once. <b>~<i>[[User:SuperHamster|<font color="#07517C">Super</font>]]</i>[[User:SuperHamster|<font color="#6FA23B">Hamster</font>]]</b> <small>[[User talk:SuperHamster|Talk]]</small> 17:40, October 18, 2014 (EDT)

== Userboxes ==

How do you create a Userbox?'I know how to like use the HTML Userbox and all that, but I see userboxes like this <nowiki><{{Mario}}></nowiki> and all you have to do is type in Mario to make it work. do you know how to do that? --[[File:MarcusSignature.jpg|100px|link=User:567koala]] 08:23, October 22, 2014 (EDT)

:Userboxes like that, and the others listed on [[Nookipedia:Userboxes]] are set up as [[Help:Templates|templates]] and placed on their own page so they can be easily added to another page without typing out the full code. For example, the code for the 'nocturnal user' userbox is on the page [[Template:UB Nocturnal]]. Userboxes with their own pages are typically those with general appeal, so if several people want to use a userbox, they don't need to copy and paste the full code.

:If you there's a box that you think would be better off having its own page, you can create a template page with the userbox's code--and preferably some usage information--and then transclude it on another page with <nowiki>{{template's name}}</nowiki> as usual. At the moment there's not a lot of oversight on userboxes, but we're slowly working on organizing the templates. In the meantime, it'd be helpful if new userbox templates were named "Template:UB [something]" and added to Nookipedia:Userboxes and the userbox category. ''{{t|UB Fan Mario}}'' is a good example of a simple userbox template page.
