Title: Campaign Coordinator, Coal, Climate and Health Initiative

Location: Telework within five hours of Pacific Standard Time.

Office co-location possible in Washington, DC, Boston and San Francisco.

Organizational Overview:

Health Care Without Harm (HCWH) is a non-profit organization that works to transform the health sector worldwide so that it becomes ecologically sustainable and a leading advocate for environmental health and justice. HCWH has offices in the US, Europe, Latin America and Asia, and works with health professionals, hospitals, health systems, ministries of health, NGOs and international organizations. (www.noharm.org) The Coal and Health Initiative (CHI) is an HCWH project that aims to engage the health sector to address the health impacts of coal fired power generation and advocate for healthy development based on clean energy pathways. Working in key target countries and globally, the Initiative seeks to mobilize health professionals to advocate for healthy energy, healthy air and a healthy climate.

Position Overview:

HCWH is looking for a dynamic health professional with international experience, multiple cultural competencies and a strong organizing background. The position requires excellent people and organizational skills.

The CHI Campaign Coordinator (CC) will be tasked with facilitating a worldwide team of health organizations and experts that supports national campaigns working to halt the expansion of coal-fired power generation and promote healthy, clean energy policies. While the campaign is worldwide, focus will be on key countries where coal-based energy production is expanding, thereby threatening the global climate. Countries include India, South Africa, Australia, China and the Philippines. The CC will be responsible for developing a toolbox of key resources for those working on the issue in these and other countries, coordinating a worldwide experts group of academic leaders in the field, and for collaborating with HCWH partners in each country and globally to support their activities and the effort overall. Job Responsibilities:

Collaborate with HCWH partners in key countries around the world.

Facilitate and help lead an international coal and health working group composed of HCWH health and environmental campaign groups.

Help build and facilitate a worldwide panel of academic experts on the health impacts of energy choices that supports efforts on the ground in key countries.

Develop a toolbox and set of activities (eg. Webinars, media resources, fact sheets, trainings, etc) that support health organizations as they engage on the coal issue in multiple countries.

Work as part of HCWH’s international team addressing climate and health.

Collaborate with other HCWH staff and partners to achieve goals.

Participate in fundraising efforts.

Take on other tasks as needed.

Qualifications:

At least five years experience working on public health, healthcare and/or environment issues. (preference for an MPH, RN or MD).

Strong scientific and/or technical skills and experience.

Strong organizing and people skills.

Strong attention to detail.

Ability to work in a team and independently.

Ability to travel internationally.

International organizing experience on environment/development/health initiatives.

Multiple languages and cultural competencies a big plus.

Additionally, CHI Campaign Coordinator must have excellent written and verbal communication skills and the ability to multi-task and interact positively and effectively with members, partners and coworkers. S/he must be highly motivated, organized and demonstrate strong time management skills. Fluency in MS Office Suite is essential. The Campaign Coordinator must be able to initiate and follow through on projects, solve problems and meet deadlines with limited supervision. S/he must possess tact, diplomacy, a positive attitude and the ability to work well under pressure.

Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work successfully within a team.

Excellent written and oral communications skills

Able to quickly adapt with minimal coaching to new situations, processes; ability to adapt style to meet the needs of individuals and/or the organization.
