The Montreal Canadiens are the North Division champs.
The Habs defeated the Winnipeg Jets by a final score of 3-2 in overtime of Game Four, completing the sweep thanks to Tyler Toffoli’s winner.
Erik Gustafsson opened the scoring for Montreal on the power play and Artturi Lehkonen made it 2-0 Canadiens going into the middle frame.
Then the Jets rallied, with Logan Stanley scoring twice in the second period to tie it up going into the third.
After a scoreless final period, the game shifted to overtime and it didn’t take Toffoli long to end the series. The winning goal came at 1:39 into the extra frame, with a picture-perfect assist by Cole Caulfield.
The Canadiens held momentum for the entire series, taking the first two games in Winnipeg before moving the action back to Montreal in front of 2,500 fans at the Bell Centre.
The Canadiens blasted the Jets in Game Four, outshooting them 41-16.
Winnipeg once again outhit Montreal and took more penalties, but the Habs capitalized on one of three power plays and left the Jets with nothing on one man-advantage chance.
Winnipeg goalie Connor Hellebuyck was tremendous and played perhaps his best game of the series, but it wasn’t enough to get the job done in the end.
Montreal was the last team to enter the post-season, the last team to win a first-round series, but the first team to exit the second round. They’ve won seven straight playoff games.
The Canadiens will face the winner of the Vegas Golden Knights/Colorado Avalanche series.
