Following the government announcement today of the next round of funding for Family Hubs, Dorset is set to launch its second hub at Wimborne later this month.
Dorset was part of the first round of local authorities, announced by the government last May, who benefited from an award of £875,450 to set up Family Hubs across the Dorset Council area.
The first Family Hub opened a few weeks ago at Ferndown and will provide visible, appealing and welcoming spaces for families to access help and support from Dorset Council and from partner services such as NHS health visitors, midwives, early years practitioners, voluntary, community and faith sector partners without needing an appointment or having to travel too far.
Cllr Andrew Parry, Dorset Council’s portfolio holder for children, education, skills and early help, said: ‘We were incredibly pleased to open our first Family Hub at Ferndown recently. The Hub will strengthen the support and services we deliver for children, young people and their families. This is the first of a trailblazing programme of Hubs that we will be rolling out across the county which will help to make Dorset the best place to be a child.’
‘Where there is a physical presence, the Hubs are set in buildings that provide a number of services, including lots of community groups, so there will also be opportunities to make friends in the community through activities.
The Hubs will not be just in physical locations. Dorset Council is also working on an online presence, known as Our Digital Family Offer, which will mean parents and carers will also be able to get advice and support online at a time that suits them.
Councillor Parry added: ‘We were pleased to get the grant from the government because it showed recognition for the great things we’d already achieved for families in Dorset. Now we are pleased to show how we are delivering on our plans to make full use of the grant to further improve the lives of Dorset children. ‘
