The National Center for Appropriate Technology (NCAT) is a private non-profit corporation that works to promote sustainable technologies and systems, especially for the benefit of economically disadvantaged individuals and communities. NCAT is seeking a student with an interest in sustainable agriculture to work in our Butte, Montana office. This is a wonderful opportunity for the right student to work on a national program under the direction of an experienced Agriculture Specialist. The student will be working on a number of projects focusing on sustainable agriculture.

Responsibilities: Responsibilities for the position may include general agriculture labor on NCAT’s Small-Intensive Farm Training (SIFT) farm assisting with planting, cultivation, and harvesting of produce. The intern will be working with hand tools and will operate wheelbarrows, lift some objects that may be heavy, and operate roto-tillers and lawn mowers (as allowed by state law.). Additionally the intern will care for poultry including feeding, watering and moving fencing in a pastured poultry operation. Most of the work done will be outdoor work. The intern will be working closely with an NCAT Agriculture Program Specialist on a number of projects.

Qualifications: The internship is available to a qualified currently enrolled high school or college student. The successful candidate will need to have good written and verbal communication skills and an interest or background in sustainable technologies. The successful applicant will also need to interact with the public and NCAT staff in a professional manner. The ability to work independently and to manage multiple tasks is required.

Compensation: $7.90/hr depending on experience. The position is part time and we are willing to work around your school schedule.
