– He said the government should arrest the declining economy

– The senator said the government was paying more attention to anti-corruption war instead of the economic decline

The social-media savvy senator, Ben Murray-Bruce, has reacted to the takeover of his businesses by the Asset Management Corporation of Nigeria (AMCON).

He said the situation is being resolved and things will be back to normal.

Senator Bruce said it is possible to fight corruption and grow the economy at the same time

Senator Bruce said in 36 years, Silverbird has grown and it will face challenges like anybody.

In a series of tweets posted on Thursday, June 23, the senator representing Bayelsa East senatorial district said it is possible to fight corruption and grow the economy at the same time.

It is actually possible to fight corruption and grow the economy at the same time. One does not have to happen at the expense of the other.

1-I have been on an international flight and have only just landed. The situation is being resolved and things will be back to normal.

2-In 36 years, Silverbird has grown and like any body, it will face challenges. Tough times dont last. But we, as tough people, outlast them

Bruce, who is not happy with the poor state of the Nigerian economy, said President Muhammadu Buhari’s administration was more concerned about fighting corruption and is not paying attention to what’s going on with the nation’s economy.

He said he was in support of the war against corruption but wished the media would carry more headlines about economic progress instead of incessant arrests by the DSS and the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission.

The senator said the only business booming in Nigeria today is the business of arresting and detaining Murray Bruce therefore called on the government to arrest economic decline.

I appreciate the anticorruption war, but I wish our media also carry headlines of economic progress instead of incessant arrests by DSS/EFCC

We are fixated on anticorruption and dont notice what’s going on with our economy. Per @Bloomberg, In 1 week @AlikoDangote lost $3.7 billion

The only business booming in Nigeria today is the business of arresting and detaining. I wouldn’t mind if we are arresting economic decline!

President Obasanjo fought corruption, yet he also grew the economy. And he did this with oil at $15 per barrel. Low oil price is no excuse.

In reaction, some of his followers said he was right. Some others asked him to hide because they will soon come for him like they have done with other people criticising the government.

Innocent Chukwuma wrote: “You are Directly on point… If they had used the same force they are using in arresting people for corruption on the economy, Nigerians’ problems would’ve been half solved.”

Uwem Etukudo, a graduate of the Polytechnic of Calabar wrote: “You are on point my senator. OBJ grew our economy with just only $15 per barrel and we all saw and witness prosperity. Why is Buhari’s case the reverse, instead of tackling the economy he is attempting to silent the legislators because he knows that they are our last hope.”

“God will bless u for this post sir. And fighting only PDP in d name of corruption shames d anticorruption campaign. In the last regime virtually all APC members where PDP members and when they speak of PDP ruin am wondering if they think we forgot they were a part of it,” Emereole Chidozie, a medical doctor at University of Uyo Teaching Hospital noted.

Some other people were however, not in support of him as they accused him of mischief.

Ugo Chikezie wrote: “Everywhere in the world, the media reports corruption cases and investigations. The recent Panama leaks were exposed by the media and the media kept following it up till everything was made open. Infact, it was the shame of the exposure from the western media that made some people who were mentioned to actually resign their positions. It is a normal thing all over the world, so I don’t know why Ben Bruce is making it look like it’s a Nigerian thing.

“Our economy is in comatose because of these people who are being arrested and tried now, so how do we want to revive the economy without recovering what these people have looted???? For God’s sake, the country has been stolen dry and left to die.

“Ben Bruce should tell us his position on the recent proposed LIFE PENSION bill and immunity etc. He should tell us how much he takes home as a senator. He just collected a #35m SUV recently, he kept quiet. Let him speak up at the red chamber and stop distracting us on Facebook and Twitter alone.”

Another one of his followers Opaluwa Ugbede-Ojo Omera said Ben Bruce should realise that not all his followers are dumb.

“You have a media house let them report more on what you have said. The question you should ask now is, those arrested did they truly steal or receive such money? If yes then case closed let PMB do the work. NOTE; APC chieftain Jafar Isa was arrested and stolen funds were recovered by this administration, AVM Atawodi governorship candidate of APC in Kogi was arrested because he was involved in symphony money meant to buy military jungle boot.
I am happy now that both rich and poor are broke now unlike during GEJ where rich got richer,” he wrote.

Also speaking, Ali Kabs, a graduate of Ahmadu Bello University Zaria, said Nigeria’s economy will grow when Bruce summons the courage to condemn the activities of the Niger Delta Avengers which is reducing the quantity of the crude produced per day.

Meanwhile, report surfaced on Thursday that Senator Ben Bruce might be losing some of his assets to the Asset Management Corporation of Nigeria (AMCON) for failing to settle an N11 billion loan owed Union Bank and acquired by AMCON.

AMCON is now seizing the assets belonging to the four companies used in securing the loan – Silverbird Productions Limited, Silverbird Showtime Limited and Silverbird Galleria Limited.
