The last Windows 10 Insider update to the Fast Ring was now a month ago, on the 7th December, with Build 14986.

While Microsoft did take a break for the holidays we expected a new build by now, and in a post in the Feedback Hub Dona Sarkar explained the hold-up.

She writes that if the current build was released now there would be issues updating to the next one, which may require a full re-install, a less than ideal situation.

Many of you have been asking about getting a new build this week. Unfortunately, we don’t have a good candidate to release to you right now. We have hit an issue with N + 1 updates (the update path going forward from one build to another). We have a commitment to never leave our community in a bad state if we can help it. We certainly don’t want to release a build that would leave Insiders stuck and requiring a reinstall of Windows to get back into a good state.

Fortunately it seems Microsoft has already solved the issue, and is now testing a new build internally which may be pushed out next week.

We believe we have solved the issue and are pushing new builds out through our internal rings right now to test the solution. If everything looks good, we hope to have a new build for you next week.

We’ll be sure to notify our readers as soon as a the new build hits the public, so keep an eye on the site for the latest Insider news.
