You would think, a show that is about the dead rising and eating the living, survival in an apocalyptic world not need an explanation why it's "Not Suitable for Children." However a record number of complaints, that while watching it with their children, (more than a few, I suspect, as ignorance abounds) are complaining it psychologically damaged their children.
In my opinion, as this article is all about my opinion, just to be clear, for those who don't understand the concept of parental responsibility, TV Maturity Ratings, may also not understand the concept of editorial opinions. I can imagine a trend of not only self absorbed ignorance, but petty offense. Which I predict will fill the comments on this post. Well let your anger flow through you. Embrace your hate.
Personally, even though a very vocal majority, is basically calling you whinny, titty babies, like myself; I understand there is a market for post production censored alternative versions. Which if people can not possibly watch without their young children, even though they have to subscribe to a cable service and ultimately are legally responsible for whatever their children watch and therefore their emotional reactions to it.
After all it comes with a warning. The TV14 rating, which means it's probably not suitable for Children under the age of 14, by the TV Ratings Authority as "Parents Strongly Cautioned." Which if you have problems understanding them you can read their website at http://www.tvguidelines.org/ratings.htm. It's even "Yo hablo espanol" for those who are natural Spanish speakers.
As I understand it, lots of people are complaining they cannot watch the show with their kids. As good as it feels to totally rip on them, the sheer number of complaints presents an opportunity. My suggestion is to create a less gory version and sell it to these people. Give it an early time slot, even syndicate it for broadcast television, profit from it. But don't let these people acting irresponsibly with their own children's psychological health, burden such a wonderful show.
Cover me in blood of the undead. Let death, gore and the beautiful sound of bones snapping fill my best nightmares. Let it inspire my Dark Side, because I'm a horror writer and your fear is my pleasure.
