It's been a couple of months since that dreaded day when ABC cancelled Marvel's Agent Carter. It wasn't long after this announcement circulated that the internet exploded, with fans campaigning to save their favourite show using various platforms to get their voice heard — trending on Twitter, launching YouTube videos and most notably — appealing to Netflix with a petition that garnered an incredible 125, 000 signatures and it's still rising.

Very little explanation was given for the cancellation — the ratings were never anything to sing about but that never seemed to bother ABC before. Moreover, Agent Carter's sister show Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D struggles in the ratings department yet it was renewed. Now that we've had about two months for the dust to settle, lets take a look at why now would be the perfect time for Netflix to swoop in and save the day.

A Better Platform

Ten years ago, if you missed an episode of your favourite show, you'd most likely be unable to catch-up. Today, not only do we have repeats and catch-up services, but we have streaming services such as Netflix, Amazon, Hulu and iTunes where one can stream or purchase their favourite shows digitally.

Agent Carter may be a period drama, but it existed in 2015 on network television. Network television is becoming less and less popular and — with the exception of premium cable networks such as HBO and Showtime — most people are now looking for entertainment from streaming services. Streaming TV shows and films online is becoming more and more the norm with very passing year. This unique format would allow Agent Carter to exist where it would be more accessible to the modern generation. The streaming service would also allow for dark storylines that would be deemed unsuitable for network television.

Among Friends

The CW may be the home of DC Superhero television, but it's a known fact that Netflix is the home of premium quality Marvel entertainment. Netflix's exclusive deal with Marvel allows the streaming service to produce their own original series featuring Marvel's characters — also taking place in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

So far, Netflix have produced Marvel's Daredevil, which has been a worldwide smash hit, and Marvel's Jessica Jones, which has enjoyed similar success. As you can see from the image above, Netflix are set to produce three more Marvel original series' including The Defenders which will feature characters from all of their other Marvel products.

Taking all of this into consideration, you can see why it's obvious that Netflix is the perfect home for Agent Carter. Not only is it a Marvel series, but it technically exists within in the same universe as all of Netflix's original Marvel programming — the MCU.

Online Support

As I mentioned above, the fan support within the 'Save Agent Carter' campaign has been incredible and the petition currently holds over 125, 000 signatures — pretty impressive for a show deemed to be unsuccessful. Not only that, but "Agent Carter" trended worldwide following the show's cancellation. Hashtags like #SaveAgentCarter and #NetflixSaveAgentCarter are becoming increasingly popular with every passing day.

With a petition this successful, its pretty clear that Netflix would be be guaranteed to reap the benefits of Agent Carter if they were to renew it. If you'd like to sign the petition, click here.

Marvel Continues to Thrive

As you can see from the Netflix original programming, Marvel are doing extremely successful and are showing no signs of slowing down. The second season of Daredevil was universally praised, The second season of Jessica Jones is due for release later in the year, three more Netflix original series are planned for release in the coming years, Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D will as be returning to screens later in the year, Captain America: Civil War was a massive success at the worldwide box office and the MCU is getting ready to enter a new era with several new products lined up for release.

Marvel is larger than ever and now would be the perfect opportunity for Marvel (and Netflix) to cash in on Peggy Carter's popularity. The character is not only extremely popular, but extremely vital to the entire existence of several key elements of the MCU — S.H.I.E.L.D, Steve Rogers fulfilling his potential and of course her friendship with Howard Stark and Edwin Jarvis — factors that were likely important for a young Tony Stark .

Revivals Are Bigger Than Ever

We're living in a golden era for television — some of the greatest ever TV series are being brought back for a revival. Just look at what announcements the past year had had to offer - We've had the X Files revival, Twin Peaks is making a long awaited return, Prison Break will be returning to FOX later this year after a seven year gap and who could forget Gilmore Girls, which is being revived by none other than Netflix itself.

As revivals are so popular at the moment, especially from Netflix who have saved much loved shows in the past, then now would be the perfect timing for Netflix to revive our favourite Marvel agent.

With evidence like that there really is no question — Netflix should revive Agent Carter. While there is no official word from the streaming service thus far, the evidence suggests that fans should remain hopeful. Not only that, but Hayley Atwell admitted that she would "one hundred percent" commit to a revival if it were to happen.

I'm no expert, but there is pretty solid evidence to suggest that a revival would be great for everyone involved. Marvel continues to take over the world, but it's only fair that they should bring back the woman who's responsible for it all, right?
