WARNING: First off this article will contain MAJOR SPOILERS from The Flash, Arrow, Legends of Tomorrow and Supergirl.
So for my 70th article, I wanted to write something special. Having looked back over my previous articles, I concluded that clearly my favorite thing to write about is the "Arrow-Verse" (or "Flarrow-Verse"). Having said that, I didn't really need to look back through my articles to tell you that, I do love writing about these amazing shows (as well as watching them!)! I am very happy that they exist! :)
Anyways, the "Arrow-Verse" has existed now for four years. Over those four years, there have been lots (and I mean lots!) of goosebumps-inducing moments. We have watched epic, emotional and explosive scenes unfold before our eyes and one way or another, these scenes have quite frankly, given us chills. Now, I recognise that there is an abundance of these awe-inspiring moments and it's impossible to state all of them. But I have chosen 18 which I feel particularly stand out and hope you all enjoy the list!
REMEMBER...SPOILERS AHEAD!
#18. "Supersonic Punch Baby!" - The Flash S1, Ep06: 'The Flash is Born'
[[yt:GuHmVqgy_5U]]
One of the first real "goosebumps" moments from The Flash (and believe me, there have been plenty since). Barry finds that even with super-speed, when he comes up against his (now metahuman) high school bully, he is unable to stop him. Despite talks of the "supersonic punch" as a possible solution, the team decided that it was too dangerous and canned the idea. However, when Barry is unable to subdue his adversery again, he runs away..."5.3 miles away". From the moment Cisco uttered those words and the music slowly began to build up as Barry's eyes filled with lightning, we knew we were in for an epic moment. The episode title says it all, from this moment...The Flash was born!
#17. "I'm the Justice You Can't Run From" - Arrow S3, Ep10: 'Left Behind'
[[yt:irjjt24u194]]
Despite it's original critical acclaim, Arrow had been met with criticism over it's handling of the Laurel Lance character, particularly throughout the second season. However, it is quite ironic that when the show itself was met with criticism for other reasons, Laurel finally turned things around and got her moment to shine. Having fought an uphill battle to prove to fans that she was just as tough as her sister Sara, Laurel finally became who she was always meant to become. The mantle that had been seemingly taken from her was now in it's rightful place - the hands of Dinah Laurel Lance. Throughout Season 3 & 4, she kicked ass as the Black Canary. During a season that failed to capture the flare of it's predecessors, Laurel was the saving grace. And she continued this journey, with many fans warming to her and finally accepting her, all of them loving her in Season 4. However, unfortunately, Arrow was not finished misusing the character and killed this sacred comic-book character towards the end of the show's 4th season. No matter how many ways it is spun, it doesn't change the fact that every possible angle they can use from her death will eventually dry up...unlike the decades worth of Black Canary storylines they could have explored with her character instead. Anyways, even though she was mistreated once again, watch in awe as Katie Cassidy is more badass than before when she makes her stunning debut as the Black Canary.
#16. The Emerald Archer Rises - Arrow S3, Ep12: 'Uprising'
[[yt:e1Ll9tqTISw]]
One of the standout moments from Arrow season 3. After being defeated and "killed" by Ra's Al Guhl, Oliver Queen's mission lived on through Arsenal, Diggle, Fleicity and now, the Black Canary. However, when new evil, Daniel "Brick" Brickwell took over the Glades, all out warfare ensued. Good went to war with evil and in a moment very reminiscent of The Dark Knight Rises, the Arrow rose to reclaim his city. Man, I miss the Arrow!
#15. Barry finds out Oliver is the Arrow - Arrow S2, Ep08: 'The Scientist'
[[yt:yVE91svDFEo]]
Before there was the Flash, there was Barry Allen: a lovable nerd, obsessed with science, chasing the impossible and superheroes. The young CSI came to Starling City to chase down a lead on metahumans but secretly wanted to catch a glimpse of the Arrow. At the end of this episode when said Arrow is injected with lots of unimaginable toxins, Felicity and Diggle conclude to enlist Barry to help save Oliver's life. Gustin's facial expressions said it all when he set his eyes upon the fallen and un-hooded Arrow. The cinematography here was perfect as the camera slowly panned over Oliver's body from his legs up to his un-hooded face, revealing his identity to not just us, but Barry Allen. And thus, the Arrow/Flash saga had officially begun!
#14. "I am the Green Arrow" - Arrow S4, Ep01: 'Green Arrow'
[[yt:9TlsuoWP-yc]]
After the not-so-well received 3rd season, this season opener was a step in the right direction. For the first six weeks straight or so of Arrow's 4th Season, I really felt that it had re-invented itself so well that it literally won each week for me, beating out the majority of TV Shows that I watched. (Although the majority of the episodes since did keep up the great standard, certain "creative" choices have once again hindered Arrow.) However, seeing Oliver Queen giddier, happier and eventually becoming the Green Arrow was worth waiting for. This episode was literally amazing. And that scene of Oliver suiting up into his Green Arrow outfit for the first time (as the Arrow theme played) was nothing short of epic!
#13. Roy finds out Oliver is the Arrow - Arrow S2, Ep12: 'Tremors'
[[yt:hGUfIompjpE]]
The beginning of a beautiful friendship. Well...almost. Roy had a passion for fighting crime throughout season one. After being saved by the Hood, he sought to seek him out (now called the Arrow) and help him fight crime. After being injected with the Mirakuru drug, Roy could lose his temper easily, becoming a loose cannon. When the Arrow was unable to stop a replica Earthquake device from activating and Roy was busy taking out his superhuman agression on a bad guy, he saw no choice but to reveal his true identity to his portege. Using the shock of the reveal and Roy's love for Thea to calm him down, Oliver Queen convinced Roy to punch through the shipping container and together, they destroyed the Earthquake device. As Roy told Oliver "You saved me" and they symbolically shook hands...Arsenal was born.
#12. The Arrow Kills The Count - Arrow S2, Ep07: 'State V. Queen'
[[yt:CUwkas-GQXQ]]
I have said it before and I'll say it again. Seth Gabel was positively glorious as Count Vertigo. Without a doubt, one of my favorite villains (and characters) from the show. And I do like the Werner Zytle iteration from Season 3, but "The Count" was the more intrguing adaptation of the character. Gabel appraoched the role with so much charisma...and that voice - it could send shivers down your spine! Although he deserved far more screen-time, it was fitting that he was the character who got the kind of revenge on the Arrow that no-one else could...he made him kill again, breaking his sacred vow. After figuring out the Arrow's true identity, he kidnaps Felicity and threatens her with Vertigo. Without a second thought, to save Felicity, Oliver draws back his bow and sends three arrows straight into the Count's chest, sending him crashing through a window and falling to his death. After which he slowly shuts his eyes - knowing that he had broken his promise. Another powerful moment in a list of many for Arrow.
#11. The Flash, the Arrow & Firestorm defeat Reverse-Flash - The Flash S1 Ep22: 'Rogue Air'
[[yt:upYjuxxA_38]]
In a battle we had been waiting for all season, the Flash finally got to square off against the Man in the Yellow Suit: the Reverse Flash (aka Harrison Wells, aka Eobard Thawne). But he didn't come alone, he brought help in the form of Ronnie Raymond (Firestorm) and Oliver Queen (the Arrow). It was awesome to see cousins Stephen Amell and Robbie Amell side by side as their heroic counterparts. What transpired next was an epic 3 on 1 battle as the heroes took down the Reverse-Flash. It may have been breif but it was a very sweet moment that began the journey towards the amazing season one finale of The Flash.
#10. The Flash Time Travels to Save Everyone - Arrow S4 Ep08: 'Legends of Yesterday'
[[yt:hrhvxH6OPqY]]
What happens when an Immortal villain destroys everything around you? Well, travel back in time of course. Perhaps the most compelling moment in either The Flash or Arrow because of the sheer magnitude of what happened. When Vandal Savage unleashes his fury, killing all of team Arrow/Team Flash and even the Green Arrow himself, it is up to Barry to not only outrun the blast but travel back in time to save his friends and stop Savage once and for all. Goosebumps!
#9. Flash v Arrow - The Flash S1 Ep08 'Flash vs Arrow'/Arrow S3 Ep08: 'The Brave & the Bold'
[[yt:dmRgRve8Cg8]]
The first of the annual Arrow/The Flash crossover episodes! Seeing these two icons come together in a two-night, two-episode 80 minute crossover was like something straight out of a comic book. So both episodes from this crossover make the list. They had incredible moments, from the Arrow saving the Flash, to the Flash saving the Arrow - however, the most goosebump-filled moment was undoubtedly when the two heroes squared off in Central City. The Flash had fallen under Rainbow Raider's 'spell' and decided to take his rage out on an unususpecting Eddie Thawne. There was only one man would could stop this Speed Demon, and that was...the Arrow. What followed was an epic collision between two comic-book icons.
#8. Firestorm goes Nuclear - The Flash S1, Ep 13: 'The Nuclear Man''
[[yt:4xHIXrQaz9s]]
The ending of this episode and the start of the next one are like something out of a big budget film. The incredible effects used to convey this moment were something to be revered. But more than that, the sheer magnitude of this event was like something from a season finale. For the entirety of the season, the show had been teasing Ronnie's return and the Burning Man. When he showed up as Firestorm (Martin Stein and Ronnie Raymond fused together), we knew something big was about to happen. The scene out in the badlands with Caitlin, Ronnie and Barry was moving, thrilling and incredibly emotional. Blake Neely's amazing score played as Ronnie erupted into flames and Firestorm went nuclear. The follow-up episode was just as moving as Firestorm had been properly seperated, Caitlin and Ronnie reunited/Martin Stein and Clarissa reunited and Firestorm re-fused properly. This scene was extraordinary!
#7. Barry Runs Back in Time - The Flash S1, Ep 15: 'Out of Time'
[[yt:lbtn_KZmDWU]]
I don't think I've ever seen a show that delivered so many season finale-esque moments in random mid-season episodes. The Flash never failed to shock us with awe-inspiring moments and visuals and twists and turns. This episode is an example. What started out like your typical villain-of-the-week episode as the Flash squared off against Weather Wizard, ended up with Barry and Iris having their long-awaited first kiss before Barry ends up revealing his true identity to her and in an attempt to stop a tidal wave, he runs so fast that he ends up travelling back in time. Blake Neely's powerful score bellowed in the background and complimented the sheer epic scale of this scene perfectly. It will remain as one of The Flash's greatest moments!
#6. Return of the Green Arrow - Legends of Tomorrow S1, Ep 06: "Star City 2046"
[[yt:kxEk04tS--Q]]
This moment gave me chills. Absolute chills! Legends of Tomorrow has turned out to be one of the hidden gems of this past TV season. Many had written off the concept but believe me, upon watching it, it was a completely different story. Very well-paced and entertaining series that stays true to it's parent shows. I only wish I could have added more moments from the series onto this list because it's so darn amazing! Like this episode: when the Legends crash land in 2046 to a very different Star City overrun with chaos and ruled by Deathstroke Jr. Grant Wilson. The new Green Arrow Connor Hawke is taken and captured by Wilson. Sara Lance (White Canary) fails to convince Rip Hunter to help her, thus, she seeks help from the one man who can make a difference - the aged and bitter, one-armed Oliver Queen. Presenting him with his trademark bow, Sara emphatically claims "This city will always need a Green Arrow". And just like that, the Green Arrow returns to take down the man who took his arm and save Star City one more time. This moment was so badass that it felt more like the original Arrow than most of the past two seasons of Arrow have. Just awesome.
#5. The Hood saves Roy Harper - Arrow S1, Ep 18: 'Salvation'
[[yt:k-A4ZG0orwk]]
One of my absolute favorite scenes that Arrow have ever produced. The cinematography here, the storyline behind it, the acting and the score - it was just so powerful and compelling. 'Salvation' was a very dark episode, in a way very similar to Christopher Nolan's epic The Dark Knight in that the hero may have achieved his goal, but this was by no means a victory. Joseph (The Savior) was killing people on live broadcasts in order to avenge his wife's murder but he could not be convinced to do the right thing and in the end, the Hood (Oliver) had to kill him to save Roy. This episode also marks a significant turning point for the series as Oliver steps aside from his 'list' mission to save the city (for perhaps the first real time) from the savior's reign of terror. Furthermore, it basically launched the relationship between Roy Harper and the vigilante. This is without a doubt one of the most powerful scenes of the series and with Blake Neely's haunting score in the background as we got shaky close-ups of Roy, Joseph and the Hood, this scene was hauntingly beautiful.
#4. Supergirl X The Flash - Supergirl S1, Ep18: 'Worlds Finest'
[[yt:YVKsaYdp5UE]]
I thought long and hard about whether or not I should put this on the list because it technically took place on another Earth. But, technicalities aside, this list is all about moments that gave us goosebumps and because Barry's presence here gave us goosebumps, I decided that it was more than worthy of a place on the list. After months of fans hoping anf calling for a crossover, CBS and the CW listened and commissioned the inter-network crossover between The Flash and Supergirl. Because of the mostly light-hearted/family tone of both shows, we instantly knew that these characters would gel well together. Furthermore, Grant Gustin and Melissa Benoist's previous Gleeful past made us hope that the Glee aumni would end up on-screen together. Well, it happened...and it was amazing. It was action-packed, fun, witty emotional, well-written and completely entertaining. It was literally everything we would have ever hoped for and then some. Seeing these two iconic heroes together and moreover, Gustin and Benoist together, was completely and utterly worth the wait! The chemistry between Barry and Kara (and at times, Winn) was incredibly well portrayed and made for some great scenes. Here's hoping that Barry and Kara end up in each other's worlds more often! Perhaps it's time Kara came to the "Arrow-Verse" or we see her "Arrow-Verse" Earth-1 doppelganger?!
#3. The Undertaking - Arrow S1, Ep23: 'Sacrifice'
[[yt:dM2JDO0-8kk]]
I couldn't pick the best part of this episode so I am basically telling you that the entire episode is goosebumps-enducing! Well, what can I say about this episode: it's the perfect culmination of every major arc in Season 1. As the battle for supremacy in Starling City wages on in a war between the Arrow and the Dark Archer, Detective Lance puts his feelings aside to work with Felcity Smoak and the vigilante to stop Merlyn's earthquake device. The collapse of the Glades and CNRI which leads to Tommy's sacrifice to save Laurel is just spine-chilling! The emotional scenes that follow are beautiful and heart-breaking. Twist after twist and shocker after shocker remind us that this was Arrow at it's peak. Unfortunately it has lost so much from this amazing point (too much) but this was perfect. Arguably still my favorite episode of Arrow to this day. There are no words.
#2. Team Arrow vs Deathstroke - Arrow S2, Eps 22/23
[[yt:gGopkPvD93k]]
If Arrow was at it's peak in Season 1, it reached the stratusphere in Season 2. The final two episodes of the 2nd season were rife with moments that gave us chills. From seeing the demoted Officer Lance convincing the Starling City Police Depertment to stand with the Arrow and help take down Deathstroke's army of Mirakuru soldiers to Laurel finding out the truth and helping Oliver become the hero he was meant to be to the return of the Canary and Team Arrow taking down the soliders before Amanda Waller decides to destroy Starling City to contain them. Felicity's inspirational monolgue was something to be applauded and was argubaly the moment she shined the brightest in the entire series. It al culminated in an epic battle between the Arrow and Deathstroke - a battle that was 5 years in the making and lived up to the entire season's hype. For it's first 2 years, Arrow's season finales were nothing short of epic!
#1 Barry Time-Travels Back to Save his Mom - The Flash S1, Ep 23: 'Fast Enough'
[[yt:GOEqtcQkHsg]]
Superhero shows can thrive on action sequences, special effects and visually stunning sequences. But one of the most pleasant aspects of The Flash was it's family-centric moments. And well, the season one finale was just outstanding. Pretty sure there wasn't a dry eye in anyone's houses after watching Barry say goodbye to his mom. Both Grant Gustin and Michelle Harrison delivered Emmy-worthy performances in this heart-wrenching scene. It's been almost a year and I still can't stop talking about how beautiful this scene was done.
The Flash's entire Season One finale was outstanding and was a perfect culmination of every major storyline that anchored the season. From the moment when Barry travels through the speed-force with Blake Neely's incredible score serending him to his emotional goodbye with his mother and finally the opening of the singularity at the end - the season finale of The Flash excelled at absolutely everything.
[[yt:m28AWQDVFec]]
So there you have it! 18 of the most compelling and incredible moments from the entire "Arrow-Verse". I recognise that there are plaenty more that I missed out but it was very hard trying to narrow them down to just 18 and I did the best I could, choosing scenes that I really felt stuck out and hope you enjoyed the list! All series' in this universe continue to fill us with shock and awe and I can't wait for even more. With the Season finales coming up soon, I wouldn't be surprised if we saw more of them very soon!
Which 'Arrow-Verse' moment gave you goosebumps?
