The following is an idea for the future of Green Arrow in a post-Arrow world. Connor Hawke appeared on Legends of Tomorrow in an episode focused on the possible state of Star City in 2046. In the show he is the son of John Diggle, and was named after him. Believing himself unworthy of having his father’s name, he took the name Connor Hawke because why not? The following is my ideas for a story following Connor in the unscrewed up timeline, and trying to make sense of why he would be Connor Hawke when he is Diggle’s son. This isn’t necessarily what I want to see after Arrow is done, it’s more like the thoughts and ideas of an obsessive compulsive fan who rolled his eyes too hard at John Diggle Jr just randomly taking the name Connor Hawke for...reasons. Maybe it would work best as a comic like I have suggested when discussing the possibilities of Earth 2 Arrow.
Obviously things on the show in the future can happen and make this impossible, like Diggle dying prematurely. The plot relies on a few things, Diggle & Lyla survive, Palmer Tech remains named as such, and none of the new characters get introduced anytime soon.
The format would be more in line with the Flash. Flashbacks are used only when important to the story. Though a shorter season would help make the writing tighter. Maybe 16 episodes at the most.
In 2019, a pregnant Lyla Diggle’s plane is shot down somewhere in Africa during a secret black ops mission. She survived the crash and was rescued by local villagers. Sandra Hawke, a volunteer lending aid to the locals, delivers the baby, though Lyla dies in childbirth. Sandra takes care of the child in addition to her volunteer work and names him Connor. Along with Lyla’s A.R.G.U.S. credentials, Sandra finds a photo of Connor’s sonogram, on the back are the words “John Jr.” When her volunteer work is done, Sandra uses her father, a Vietnam Veteran and Senator, Nathan Hawke’s influence to forge documents for the baby.
In 2036, Connor is getting ready for college when a woman named Sara Diggle finds him and claims she is his older sister. She claims that Connor was supposed to be her brother and tells him about their family. She also reveals that she was framed for the murder of their father, John. She says he was going to be named John Jr. Connor confirms that much when he finds the Sonogram picture in Sandra’s drawer. An A.R.G.U.S. Agent named Zoe Lawton arrives at his home and reveals she is hunting Sara, and that his sister is an assassin dubbed “Deadshot.” Connor confides in Zoe and reveals his identity, he asks about his birth parents and Zoe reveals even more about his past. Revealing what John Diggle did and who he fought beside. Zoe leaves her card with Connor and claims John Diggle took care of her back in the day, even pulled strings to get her into A.R.G.U.S. After discovering all this history, Connor settles on Star City University and sets his sights on uncovering anything he can about his father’s past.
2037: While attending college in Star City, Connor becomes friends with Lian Harper, Yolanda Montez, and Professor Ryan Choi. Yolanda is the goddaughter of Ted Grant, and his first female student. Ryan is a genius who is also the youngest professor at the college, and an engineer at Palmer Tech. Lian jokes that he could be CEO in a few years if he put his mind to it. Lian is the daughter of former vigilante, Roy Harper, and former assassin, Jade Nguyen. After learning who Connor is, Roy introduces Connor to the Quiver where Roy and Jade are training Lian to carry the torch as hooded vigilantes. Oliver Queen is alive, but has not been seen in some time.
In 2046, Connor Hawke is Green Arrow, operating as a vigilante with his partner, Lian Harper, Red Arrow. They occasionally team up with fellow vigilante Yolanda Montez, the Wildcat. Team Arrow gets intel from Agent Zoe Lawton, and has a powerful ally in Palmer Tech CEO, Ryan Choi, a former teacher of Connor’s. Roy Harper designs gadgets and tech for the team and builds them with Ryan. Connor’s ultimate mission is to capture his sister for her crimes, but to clear her name for the one she didn’t commit. Hoping there is still something in Sara to save, Connor and Lian wage war against Grant Wilson, an assassin he believes to be his father’s murderer. Grant, going by Deathstroke brings the war to Star City with his sister, Rose/Ravager, and Owen Mercer/Captain Boomerang, who’s father spent time imprisoned on Lian Yu with Grant and Rose’s.
Characters
Connor Hawke/Green Arrow - The son of John Diggle who becomes the Green Arrow after discovering his father’s life and those he fought beside. He is trained by Roy Harper, the original Green Arrow’s retired partner.
Lian Harper/Red Arrow - The daughter of Roy Harper and the assassin Cheshire. Her parents both gave up their lifestyles to raise her. She trained alongside Connor and in honor of her father, took the name Red Arrow. She wields two sai in addition to her bow, similar to Roy’s secondary eskrima sticks.
Yolanda Montez/Wildcat - The Goddaughter of Ted Grant and his first woman student that went pro. Though she found herself more interesting in being his protege in vigilantism, than in boxing. She is an occasional ally to Team Arrow.
Sara Diggle/Deadshot - The daughter of John and Lyla Diggle. After the death of her mother, she grew distant from her father. As an adult, she became an assassin, regarded as the best shot, the only one comparable to Deadshot, who’s name she would appropriate for her own use. She is framed for the assassination of John Diggle, a lie she needs her brother’s help to prove.
Zoe Lawton - The daughter of Floyd Lawton/Deadshot. Zoe is an agent with A.R.G.U.S. who is tasked with taking down Sara Diggle. She was guided by John Diggle so she wouldn’t follow her father’s footsteps.
Ryan Choi/Atom - An ally to Team Arrow and their primary benefactor. He helps fund all the vigilante’s in Star City, and provides them with equipment that Roy Harper designs. Ryan is a former college professor, and current CEO of Palmer Tech.
Grant Wilson/Deathstroke - The son of Slade Wilson. After learning about his father’s legacy, Grant takes the name Deathstroke and vows to avenge Slade by targeting the current Team Arrow and their family, members of the original team.
Rose Wilson/Ravager - Grant’s sister, an Assassin known as Ravager. She joins her brother in avenging her father, but is not anywhere near as blood thirsty as her brother, showing doubt with some of his plans.
Owen Mercer/Captain Boomerang - The Illegitimate child of Captain Boomerang, Deathstroke’s cellmate. He joins Grant and Rose with the same motivation. He is a meta-human with limited super speed that comes in short bursts.
John Diggle/Spartan (Flashback only.) - Father to Connor and Sara. His murder is the catalyst for the main conflict.
Roy Harper/Arsenal - A retired vigilante and current mentor to Team Arrow. He trained his daughter and Connor.
Jade Harper/Cheshire - A retired assassin, she helped train her daughter and Connor.
Sandra Hawke - Connor’s adoptive mother. She delivered him and took him in after his mother died.
Lyla Diggle - Connor's birth mom who died giving emergency birth to him. Former Director of A.R.G.U.S.
Bart Allen/The Flash - A teenaged super hero and grandson of Barry Allen. He is an ally to the team, and occasionally helps them out when meta-humans come passing through Star City.
It's not ideal. But I tried to make the best out of a world where they thought "Hey, Diggle's black and we can't imply that Oliver doesn't end up with Felicity 5ever or we can never log into twitter or tumblr ever again so lets make Connor Diggle's son instead."
