According to the Irish Examiner, Matt Damon has recently expressed interest in taking on the role in a superhero film. However, this would only happen under one condition: Ben Affleck would have to direct the film.

“I’d consider anything with the right director, but I can’t imagine there are any superheroes left, I think they’re all taken at this moment...If he (Ben) was directing me, I’d jump on it in a New York minute. I’d love to work with Ben." - Matt Damon

So now let's get the juices flowing in terms of who Matt could play. In the past, Damon has expressed interest in playing Daredevil, but we can probably safely rule that out given Marvel's Netflix series.

Since Affleck is also tied to the DCEU, we can safely rule out any Marvel characters all together. Affleck is already confirmed to direct the latest Batman standalone film. So who's left in the DC universe that would be best for Matt Damon? Well I think I've come up with five options that could maybe work.

#5: Matt Damon as Booster Gold

If DC wanted to go towards a more comical and fun route this could work. Given the pressure Warner Bros received about being too dark, maybe this would add the fun and humor people may like. I suppose it would make sense to maybe cast Damon as the time traveling hero. I personally think that the role should probably go to a younger actor, but I think it could still work.

#4: Matt Damon as Dr. Fate

He's already played a doctor in both Interstellar and The Martian. So why not a doctor of magic? Seeing as though we all know that the comic industries have been copying one another for decades, there's no real reason to stop now. So with Marvel's Doctor Strange on the verge of premiering this, and introducing the concept of magic, it would make a lot of sense to bring about Dr. Fate. My only concern with this, in terms of it not being the most practical for Hollywood is the fact that Dr. Fate is almost always wearing his mask. (We know how much actors need to have their face be visible)

#3: Matt Damon as Green Arrow/Oliver Queen (Frank Miller version)

It's apparent that DC doesn't like to mix its TV characters with its movie characters. So move over Stephen Amell, and make room for Matt Damon as Oliver Queen, The Green Arrow. Similar to how Bruce Wayne/Batman in Batman v Superman was inspired by Frank Miller's The Dark Knight Returns, it would make sense to have Damon portray an older, grittier Green Arrow. (We could probably spare the one arm and bald factors too.)

#2: Matt Damon as Green Lantern/Hal Jordan

One option that wouldn't be too far fetched would be to have Matt Damon playing the famous Justice League member, Hal Jordan, aka the Green Lantern. He could definitely play and look the part of an experienced Lantern who is the leader of the Green Lantern Corps. The role has yet to be filled anyway, so it's definitely a legit option. His banter with Batman would be something nice to see on the big screen.

#1: Matt Damon as Thomas Elliot/Hush

This is probably the best option of them all that I can imagine. It's been something that fans have thought about for a while, but now it's just that much closer to at least becoming a realistic possibility. Who said that Matt Damon had to be a superhero anyway? Matt Damon as Thomas Elliot wins on so many levels. It would work because it's a Batman character, and we already have Ben directing one Batman film already. If you're not familiar with the story arc from the comic Hush then you should get to your nearest comic store or click this link.

I think that having Damon face off against Affleck would just be too good to pass up. The characters both share dark pasts which make them any actors dream role to play. The story itself is a great mystery for Batman to solve, and its rich enough to really get the most out of these great actors.
