Musical fantasy Mary Poppins Returns is the sequel to 1964’s hit movie of the same name. The upcoming sequel is directed by Rob Marshall and stars beautiful Emily Blunt in the lead role. This part begins 20 years later of the first film with the former nanny returning in the lives of Jane and Michael Banks. Blunt will take over the role from Julie Andrews who was widely praised for her delightful performance.

Mary Poppins Returns Cast & Film Update

Mary Poppins Returns will begin in the era of the Great Depression in 1935. The grown up kids of Banks family Jane (Emily Mortimer) and Michael (Ben Whishaw) will be revisited by their former nanny. In addition to this, Blunt will be starred was the magical woman who descends from clouds and is extremely loving towards kids.



The life of Bank’s family is hit with a tragedy that has left them numb and joyless. It remains unknown as what incidences created the grief environment in their life. However, nothing much is known about the storyline of the film. According to Entertainment Weekly, the sequel will feature the return of original cast member Dick van Dyke but he will not be reprising the role of Bert. Instead, he is set to play film’s villain, Mr. Dawes Sr. Other cast members include Julie Walters as Ellen, Colin Firth as William Wilkins, Angela Lansbury as Balloon Lady and Meryl Streep as Topsy.

The first look of the upcoming project has been revealed. However, nothing much can be explored from that as it features Mary Poppins dressed up in her signature blue coat paired with a pink hat. She is seen standing outside Bank’s house holding a colorful hang bag. In another update, Lin-Manuel Miranda, who plays the role of Jack, will dance with Blunt all the day and it’s like a dream job for him.

Mary Poppins Critical Success & Reviews

The musical fantasy comedy film has received critical acclaim for a total of 13 Academy Award nominations. It is culturally, historically and aesthetically significant and being preserved by National Film Registry. Furthermore, the film was completely shot in Burbank at Walt Disney Studios with a painted background. Mary Poppins is applauded for its visual effects, music score and Julie Andrews’ celebrated performance. Additionally, it was loosely inspired by P. L. Travers’ book series Mary Poppins.

Mary Poppins Returns is scheduled for release on December 25, 2018.
