During the 60s, car designers had started get get obsessed with aerodynamics. They understood that if the body of a car is slippery enough, it doesn’t need excess power to achieve high speeds. This brought Pininfarina together with Bertone, and Abarth to design a car that would abide by these principals.
Using a small 1000cc, four cylinder engine that sent 105hp to the rear wheels, spinning at a frantic 8,000rpm, the Fiat-Abarth Monoposto was designed in such a way that it could effectively pierce through the air. Measuring only 1.2 meters in height, 1.55 meters in width and 4.56 meters in length, it’s body was low and narrow.
As a result, the Fiat-Abarth Monoposto set not one, but eight international records, all of which are listed below. This was an aerodynamic legend.
