DOSWELL, Va. — Faith-based comedy, dancing, rapping and singing are all part of the Oct. 3 GospelFest at the State Fair of Virginia.

“The State Fair is committed to providing quality entertainment for a variety of people,” said Pam Daneker, the fair’s director of facility rentals and vendor sales. “We feel there are many people in surrounding faith communities who would love to come out and enjoy the fair and enjoy Christian music and other faith-based performances. We’ve had special days dedicated to Christian music at past fairs and have gotten an overwhelmingly good response.”

All GospelFest performances will take place on the fair’s Festival Stage.

The day will begin with laughs when comedian Wendy “The Quiet Storm” Lee performs at 10:30 a.m. Lee will be followed by Bowling Green Baptist Church’s worship team at 11.

At noon, fairgoers will be entertained by the Pleasant 2 Mime Dance Team from Third Mount Zion Baptist Church in Fredericksburg.

Singers from the Hispanic Church of Ladysmith will follow at 12:30 p.m., and the Richmond-based Breaking Every Shackle Praise Team will perform at 1.

Entertainment will continue at 2 with dancers from Anointed New Life Baptist Church in Richmond. At 2:45 fairgoers will be regaled by singers from Richmond’s Gayton Baptist Church.

From 3:45 until 4:50, singers from the Clean Music Movement will perform.

Gospel singer Chiquita Cross of Petersburg will perform at 6. Cross recently formed a youth music program called Hopewell is Alive in partnership with the Hopewell Redevelopment & Housing Authority.

At 7, singers from First Baptist Church of Woodbridge will perform. The evening will culminate with Christian rapper and Virginia Beach native Corey Goss at 8:15 p.m.

This year’s State Fair of Virginia will run from Sept. 25 through Oct. 4. Tickets and fair information are available at StateFairVa.org. Tickets also may be purchased at Walgreens locations throughout Virginia.

The 2015 fair will feature nearly 400 hours of performances, house about 2,500 animals, attract more than 10,000 competition entries, welcome field trip groups from 270 schools and serve about 13,000 corn dogs. More than 1,000 youth are expected to compete for up to $70,000 in scholarship money.

The State Fair is held each fall at its permanent home at The Meadow Event Park in Caroline County. The fair’s mission is to increase agricultural and natural resource awareness and interest through educational programs, exhibitions and competitions in a fun, family-friendly setting.
