The steady heat of summer is upon us. With the constant stream of
ever-popular music festivals lined up for the warm summer months, festival
fashion is back in the spotlight. Animal prints, flowing tops, flower
headbands, and – you guessed it – DIY feather earrings and accessories.
Feathers are an integral part of festival fashion, making a statement when
integrated into hairstyles. They cause heads to turn when serving as the
centerpiece of your fabulous accessories.

Whether you’re capitalizing on the festival fashion movement to make some
quick cash or simply wanting to add personal flair to your style, making your
own feather earrings is a splendid skill to have. Follow along for a full break
down on how to make feather earrings of your own using our colorful and chic
options.

We recommend going with two short-length feathers (from one to four inches
in length) with contrasting colors for an earring that really pops. One such
combination would be a background brilliant orange marabou down feather with a stark black and white partridge feather in front of it. If you’re a fan of a more natural
earthen palate, we recommend gentle bronze plumage feathers behind a vibrant African parrot feather. When choosing your trusted combo, let your
imagination run wild!

After you have the feathers you need, journey to a crafts store to pick up the
following items:

Beads (2) with
substantially sized holes

Jewelry clamps
(2)

Earring hooks
(2)

Needle-nose
pliers

Super glue

A toothpick

Once your supplies are gathered it’s time for the fun to begin. First,
apply super glue to the inside of your beads using a toothpick for application.
Once the superglue is in place thread the shafts of your feathers into the
bead. Take care to place the smaller feather (or whichever you want in front)
above the other feather. Do this for both earrings. Don’t forget you’re making
two!

Next, place a jewelry clamp over the ends of the feather poking out of the
bead, with the closed side facing up. Quickly apply superglue to the inside of
the clamps then push the feather ends inside. Finesse is the key! Don’t apply
too much superglue or you could experience some dripping and buildup. Then,
close the clamp utilizing your needle-nose pliers to fasten them shut.

At this point, go ahead and trim the excess glue and feather off of the
clamp. Easy as pie! Now we just have the finishing touch. Open the hoop of your
earring hooks with the handy set of pliers. Then thread the hole in the clamp
through, grab your pliers, and close it up again. Complete this step for both
earrings and you’re all set to rock your trend-setting DIY feather earrings!
