Strangers in the Night

(Strangers 01)

by

Jaycee Edward & Helena Stone

When Army veteran, Slade, stumbles upon an isolated cottage on a cold, dark, night, the young man finds more than just the shelter he’s seeking.

Former club Dominant Callum is surprised to find a handsome stranger knocking at his door but invites him in despite his reservations. A nightmare reveals Slade’s deep-seated emotional issues, and Callum knows he needs to get creative if he’s going to help Slade leave the past behind.

Neither man is prepared for the feelings Slade’s introduction into the world of BDSM will unleash, and thirty-six hours will either be enough to bind them, or they will remain forever strangers in the night.

MEN IN UNIFORM / MEN IN KILTS – WHAT’S YOUR PREFERENCE?

Helena:

I guess I was never going to make it through a full blog tour without having to make at least one potentially embarrassing confession. And this stop heralds the time for me to admit that uniforms and kilts leave me cold.

Don’t get me wrong. A beautiful, attractive and well-built man is something I enjoy feasting my eyes on with the best of them. But putting those men in a uniform or a kilt doesn’t increase my level of enjoyment. In fact, I think I can safely say that for me it’s a question of the less clothes the better. And if a man has to wear pants I’d rather see jeans than anything else.

Jaycee:

Alrighty, then. I have no problem taking this one and I’m not the least bit embarrassed to say I LOVE a man in uniform – but not the dress uniforms that most women melt over. Oh, no. I like a grittier look.

I’m a total sucker for a kilt. Nothing makes a man’s legs look as sexy as a kilt and those knee-high socks with the little tassels.  Doesn’t matter to me if it’s a traditional kilt or a more goth look. I’m good with either. Stick Callum in either of those and Slade and I are happy campers.

Then we have the fireman uniform – you know – the slouchy tan pants with the red suspenders – the ones you see on every fireman-calendar. Love those.

Tactical gear.  Nghnhhh.  Like the SWAT Team and K-9 Officers wear? Give me a tight-fitting black t-shirt and those black or olive pants with the big pockets on the sides and black, assault-style boots? Yes, please.

And I can’t forget our soldiers – like Slade. I have a huge weakness for the dessert camo uniform. Especially the pants and those light beige boots.

I apparently have a ‘thing’ about loose fitting bottoms and chunky footwear. I also seem to not care much about the shirts. Huh. I also don’t seem to be able to form complete sentences while discussing this. Ha!

How about you guys? What ‘look’ makes you get weak in the knees?

About Jaycee & Helena

Helena Stone:

Helena Stone can’t remember a life before words and reading. After growing up in a household where no holiday or festivity was complete without at least one new book, it’s hardly surprising she now owns more books than shelf space while her Kindle is about to explode.

The urge to write came as a surprise. The realisation that people might enjoy her words was a shock to say the least. Now that the writing bug has well and truly taken hold, Helena can no longer imagine not sharing the characters in her head and heart with the rest of the world.

Having left the hustle and bustle of Amsterdam for the peace and quiet of the Irish Country side she divides her time between reading, writing, long and often wet walks with the dog, her part-time job in a library, a grown-up daughter and her ever loving and patient husband.

Helena Stone can be found in the following places: Twitter, Facebook, Website, Pinterest, Goodreads, or by email.

Jaycee Edward:

Jaycee Edward is no longer seventeen years old but don’t tell her that. She’s actually a tad older and lives in northeast Ohio with her handsome husband and one, big gorgeous dog. She has two grown stepdaughters and is proud to be the ultra-cool Nana to two amazingly incredible grand-teens. Jaycee loves pistol shooting and is has earned her Bar 7 Sharpshooter status in the Winchester/NRA Marksmanship Qualification Program and hopes to someday reach the level of Expert Marksman. She is the token liberal and constant source of fascination to the other members at her gun range. Jaycee knows way too much about the inner workings of Walt Disney World and anything related to One Direction. She’d love to pull you into the rabbit hole with her. All you have to do is ask. Find her there or contact her through social media.

You can find Jaycee Edward in the following locations: her website, Facebook, Facebook Fan Page, Twitter, Google+, Goodreads, TSU, Ello, or Tumblr.

Review: Strangers in the Night, by Jaycee Edward and Helena Stone, is a thought-provoking story about a soldier (Slade) stumbling, after discharge from the military, trying to find someplace he feels normal/safe…whatever that is. He has no destination in mind as he takes off on a self-imposed journey, I believe, looking for redemption.

Even though he doesn’t know what he needs to calm his restless behavior or if there even IS such a thing, Callum, the owner of the house he comes upon, recognizes almost immediately the agitated, unsettled look Slade is wearing.

This is a short read, however, the story has a lot of detail and a lot of thoughts and feelings are brought to light very quickly. I would love to see where Jaycee and Helena decide to take this story if they ever decide to broaden it. I think the potential is very much there and they certainly possess the skill if they decide to make that happen.

Slade is mainly just looking for a place to lay his head for the night. What he finds in a few short hours in Callum’s presence is something he needs in order to quiet the nightmares he lives with.

Callum is a dominant by nature so he does what comes naturally and he risks exposing himself in order to offer some peace and calm for Slade.

I understand Callum’s thought process and his reasoning behind his actions, but I feel more time should have been fleshed out before presenting Slade with his solution. Following orders is something Slade knows well but in the bedroom his interpretation leads to confusion and hurt feelings.

Slade is struggling, internally, from past events but if given the chance, I believe Callum can take Slade to places he never knew existed. He may be blindfolded but he will see more clearly than ever.

Would I read from these authors again? Yes, I would. I felt the characters convictions and I felt the vitality Slade wanted to find at the hands of Callum. The originality of the storyline kept me turning the pages and I was sad to see it end so quickly. For a short read it packed quite a punch making me feel like a HFN is a good place to be.
