We are beaming with pride and excitement to announce that our own Stephen Marcus has been awarded the Don Buck Lifetime Achievement Award, the highest honor given by CAI’s College of Community Association Lawyers (CCAL). Stephen will be accepting the award in January during the 2017 Community Association Law Seminar in Las Vegas. The award recognizes attorneys who exhibit exceptional leadership in the field of community association law. Stephen is only the 5th recipient in the country to receive this prestigious award.
It is no surprise that Stephen has been given this award. Stephen has devoted his career and continues to dedicate and commit himself to the community association industry. He was president of CCAL in 2015 and previously served on the CCAL Board of Governors. He has been a leader and mentor in the community association law and has made numerous and remarkable contributions both locally and nationally. Stephen has been instrumental in several important projects that have raised the visibility of and demonstrated the values of CCAL. He has led efforts by CCAL to establish and provide updates on key legal issues for CAI members. He has worked to expand and better communicate the importance of CAI’s work to shape legal cases around the country through his involvement as chair of the CAI Amicus Committee. Stephen has also applied his legal expertise and leveraged his role in CCAL to aid CAI’s legislative efforts with FHA, setting up meetings with his state senators and representatives, and working to secure important policy changes to preserve super liens across the country. He was instrumental in helping CAI-National win changes in the federal bankruptcy law enabling community associations to collect assessments from bankrupt owners and his tireless efforts helped to achieve a Superlien for Massachusetts condominium associations. Stephen has also been the recipient of the CAI New England Chapter’s Outstanding Volunteer Service Award in recognition of his outstanding leadership and demonstration of long-term dedication to CAI and the community association industry.
