JULIA KUO
Julia Kuo is my guest and will discuss her book, 20 WAYS TO DRAW A CAT AND 44 OTHER AWESOME ANIMALS.
The best way to learn to draw is to draw! And this little book is going to help you do just that. It is filled with 900 adorable, modern drawings of all your favorite animals––from songbirds and jellyfish to elephants and otters––and plenty of room for sketching your own versions of all these delightful creatures.

ABOUT JULIA:
When Julia was young, she was so addicted to drawing that her brother would exploit her by selling her copy paper for 3 dollars a sheet. Now he is an economist and she is a starving artist. She also wonders how she had the money to buy such expensive drawing paper.
Julia is an illustrator working out of Chicago for most of the year and Taipei over the winter. Notable clients include the New York Times, Universal Music Group, Capitol Records, Little Brown and Co., Simon & Schuster, American Greetings, JoAnn’s Fabrics, the Home Shopping Network, and Tiny Prints.
In addition to freelancing, She is a part of a several partnerships and groups:
She is one of four in a specialty paper goods company, The Nimbus Factory.
She is part-time staff for an urban planner at Strategic Urban Solutions.
She is in a partnership dedicated to creativity in the Rust Belt area, New to Cleveland.
Lastly, Julia teaches drawing at Columbia College Chicago in the Art + Design department.
Julia is represented by Emily Van Beek at Folio Literary for children’s book illustration.

NATALIA BONNER
Natalia Bonner is my guest and will discuss her book, BEGINNERS GUIDE TO FREE MOTION QUILTING.

ABOUT NATALIA:
Natalia Whiting Bonner has enjoyed piecing quilt tops for more than twenty years. She learned how to quilt on her conventional home machine. She felt good about it, but decided that if she really wanted to take her quilting to the next level, she needed to invest in a longarm machine. In 2007, when she was pregnant with her daughter, she got the crazy idea to quit her job as a dental assistant and become a longarm quilter. Without really knowing what a longarm machine was, she spent a day at a longarm dealer’s shop and walked out after purchasing a Gammill machine. Natalia’s passion for quilting and being creative has grown each day since.
Shortly after her purchase, Natalia began blogging at piecenquilt.blogspot.com, and blogging became her connection with other quilters and fellow work-at-home moms. By 2009, her quilting business had grown, and it was time to leave the tiny, poorly lit bedroom where she had been doing all her quilting. Natalia moved into a studio at her parents’ home, and with the inspiration of her mother, Kathleen Whiting, she has realized that the sky is the limit.
Whether it’s working on an intense show quilt or a simple baby quilt, Natalia has become a real quilting addict. She has won numerous awards for her work and has been featured on Moda Bake Shop, in Quiltmaker Magazine and American Patchwork & Quilting Magazine, and in books such as Fresh Fabric Treats, Modern Blocks and Sweet Celebrations with the Moda Bake Shop Chefs, Modern Quilts From the Blogging Universe and her first book, Beginner’s Guide to Free-Motion Quilting and Modern One-Block Quilts.

Bridget Cavanaugh Thibeault, chef/co-proprietor of Lunar Bakery & Café in Cleveland Heights, Ohio, began her career in advertising in Chicago after earning a degree from Marquette University. A love for cooking and creativity led her to culinary school where she and Associates of Applied Science degree in Culinary Arts from the Cooking & Hospitality Institute of Chicago.
Bridget moved to New York City to become a food stylist, gaining experience in both print and television for major food brands and publications. Flower Girl, her custom cake and dessert business, was launched as a creative side business. She returned to Chicago in 2004 to work as culinary director at a culinary consulting firm doing recipe and menu development, testing, writing, product ideation, and food styling. In 2006, Bridget relocated to her hometown of Cleveland to focus on her growing Flower Girl business, which in turn led to her partnership in Luna Bakery & Café. Luna offers fresh breakfast, lunch, and dinner options including crapes, salads, pan inis, local espresso, and coffee. Specialties include: made from scratch pastries, cupcakes, and wedding cakes.
