Nine songs for your listening pleasure gathered from the week’s new releases.

We have Mountain Goats showing that even with a throwaway song, composed off the back of a jokey Twitter conversation, John Darnielle can better 95% of what is out there, whilst Molly Burch and Tara Jane O’Neil’s beautifully composed songs are at the other end of the pendulum’s swing.

We also have some brilliant fuzzy, indie rock from Snail Mail, Okkervil River’s cover of a Roky Erikson gem especially for Amazon’s Valentines playlist, and another cover (this time it is the Jesus & Mary Chain) from Beach Slang. Some catchy, but caustic punk from Bleached, and some equally catchy garage-punk from The Courtneys. We finish off with a wonderful 60s psych-freak-folk inspired track from Shadow Band.

Enjoy.

Snail Mail – Thinning

Okkervil River – You Don’t Love Me Yet  (Roky Erikson cover)

Mountain Goats – The Ultimate Jedi Who Wastes All The Other Jedi And Eats Their Bones

Molly Burch – Wrong For You

Bleached – Can You Deal?

Tara Jane O’Neil – Sand

The Courtneys – Minnesota

Beach Slang – Sometimes Always  (Jesus & Mary Chain cover)

Shadow Band – Daylight
