Letter from Head Principal

Dear ISQ Parents,

It was very exciting to greet each of your children this morning (11 August 2015) on this first day of the new school year. I know that the staff and administration has work diligently to prepare for today. If you have the chance, email them a big thank you.

Speaking of preparations, there is one thing that I do wish to point out and that is that there are new water mains throughout the campus. As some you might recall that in the past couple of years, we have had some issues with the water to the campus buildings. It was decided that the pipes that were there were not worth fixing. So for the long-term, the decision was made to replace the whole set. If you were on campus at all during the month of July, you saw the mess. We are glad that project is complete and that all is cleaned up for the school to have a successful year.

Again, we are glad that we can be of service to you and your child.

If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me.

Introducing Our New 8A Social Studies Teacher

We are very blessed and pleased that Mrs. Lisa Clay will begin teaching our 8A Social Studies class this Monday! Mrs. Clay comes to us from the USA where she obtained a double major in both Secondary Education and History, and a minor in English. We are excited for her to teach the course! Before coming to Qingdao, Ms. Clay and her family lived in Wu Han for 6 years. While in Wu Han, Ms. Clay taught Middle and High School English at WYIS, one of our sister schools. The Clay family have now been living in Qingdao for two years. With her experience and background, I know she will have much to impart into our 8th graders educational experience. Mrs. Clay will replace Mr. Dentel in the 8A Social Studies classroom.

Thank you!

International School of Qingdao Sailing Class

At ISQ, we are passionate about our Physical Education and Health. That is why we are so excited and blessed to welcome Summer Cunningham as ISQ’s first sailing teacher/instructor and coach. Summer comes to us with a wealth of experience and certifications within sailing; most notably Summer is an Olympian who represented China at the Beijing 2008 Olympics. In 2002, Summer sailed for China at the Asian Games held in Busan, South Korea where she won the Gold Medal. Today, Mrs. Cunningham still competes internationally and is also a licensed instructor and captain; certified from the America Sailing Associated, United States. Originally from Hangzhou, Summer, along with her husband and two boys call Qingdao home.

Sailing will be offered to Middle School students as an elective while High School students can take it as a PE class. Students will learn the basic of sailing on the water once a week and the skills required to operate a sail boat. Additionally, students will learn vocabulary and theory once a week at school in order to further their knowledge and expertise in learning to sail.

The International School of Qingdao also offers sailing for parents, staff and their families at a minimal price. If you would like to learn more about this opportunity please contact the Physical Education and Athletics Department at ISQ for more information. We look forward to hearing from you.

PowerSchool Change Letter

Dear Parent/Guardians,

We have recently migrated our PowerSchool Parent Portal to a different server. As a result of this move, the students and their parent/guardian’s access of information to this new server changed. You will still be able to securely access your child’s school information as in the past.

A flyer will be sent home with your child(ren) in addition to an email sent to your preferred email account with instructions for this change. When you receive the flyer or email, please go to https://powerschool.isqchina.com/public to access the PowerSchool Parent Portal.

Students: Please use your assigned login and password to access your account.

-ISQ IT Department

Greetings from the Chinese department!

Please note, if your child is currently enrolled in a Chinese class, your child has the opportunity to switch to a different Chinese class WITHIN THE FIRST TWO WEEKS OF SCHOOL (by August 26th, 2015). We wish to work with students to ensure they are in a class that is suitable for their Chinese language level (usually the switch is to one level lower or higher). If you feel that your child should be moved down one level, you must have them bring permission from you in the form of a letter or note that is to be given to their Chinese teacher. To move up a level, your child must sit for an entrance exam and score acceptable passing marks.

If you have any questions about the switching process, please contact your child’s Chinese teacher.

Thank you!
